Should I put this here? Best Indian restaurant in Central/East London - apart from Brick Lane

My DH is Indian and has his birthday in about a month. I really want to take him to a good Indian restaurant but he is quite finicky about the quality and price of food (dammit).

Anyone know a good Indian in central or east London. We don't want to go to Brick Lane, and it would also need to accommodate a 20 month old. Thanks!

We went here: www.amaya.biz/index.html the other week which was amazing. Very expensive (thankfully DH's company were paying) but incredibly different.

what sort of Indian food - Keralan, northern indian?

There's a great Keralan/south indian in tooting that's well worth the tube trip.

Oh cool, it doesn't matter really, just something that is good quality but not too expensive. He also likes south Indian, even though he is from the north so will check them out. Thanks for that too tokentotty, might not want to spend too much, but he never spends that much on himself so I might have the urge to splurge.

I think I am being a bit funny about this as we had a really bad eperience with an Indian restaurant a couple of weeks ago - Cafe Mumbai, just off Piccadilly circus - don't ever go there!!!

You gotta go to Rasa then! In Stoke Newington so not that central but the original and the best. Not expensive. There is a Vegetarian one (the original) and a meat one opposite. www.rasarestaurants.com/UserPages/index.aspx

You could try Chowki. It's just of Picadilly Circus and I think it's fab. They do food from different regions of India. It's won awards from the Evening Standard I think. [www.chowki.com]

y y y to Rasa... I go to the one in Stoke Newington and it's great. I'm not veggie and love the vegetarian one.

I used to go to one years ago (might not even be there anymore) called Lahore, in Commercial St, E1

Was a BYO booze type, and loads of locals used to go there (in fact it was pre-dominantly Asian customers)

Lovely grub. Once sat next to Keith Allen and a load of his kids (who knows, maybe a little Lily?!)

Cheap too

I like Lime on Westferry Road, so does my Indian Malaysian DH and Indian friends. They have always been very welcoming to ds (who was probably about 3 when he first went there). I'm not sure whether they have highchairs or not.
