need sour cream for sour cream in the cake

Dear ones, Who prepared the sour cream cake?
I recently live in uk, I have not quite adapted to the products, or rather to the substitutes for my domestic products. Let me explain - for example, in Russia sour cream - here is sour cream (in English the name sounds the same, but the taste and properties in preparation are slightly different).
Why is this .... I need to make a cake for my anniversary - I will bake for the first time. the recipe is simple but you need a dead sour cream (I saw in the reviews because of the purchase of sour cream from a different manufacturer - some women did not get the cream). Tell me, did you cook cream from local sour cream (for example, smentana bought in Tesco)? or will it fail?
can it be better to buy in a Russian or Lithuanian store? and what brand?
or the last option - can you recommend a cool and simple cream recipe together?

(a little about the cake that I want to cook - just chocolate cakes, sour cream whipped with sugar, serhu for decorating berries and chocolate)

A tablespoon of lemon or lime juice stirred into fresh double (or heavy) cream will make sour cream

I've made a cake with sour cream bought in the supermarket here. Just don't buy low fat sour cream.

I bought it in Sainsbury's but I'm sure they are all the same.

I just use whatever supermarket I am closest to and buy their own brand sour cream. I agree that you shouldn't buy low fat though.

I'm sure Tesco sour cream is fine, I've used it in cakes many times

Oh it'll be a lovely cake Smile
You can use sour cream, yoghurt or creme fraiche.

Just sour cream, or crepe fraiche.

I’ve even used Greek style (not low fat) yogurt in baking and it’s turned out fine

Hello OP.

Not sure what “serhu” is.

I’m Polish and I’d go for full fat creme fraiche.

Do you need to whip it(bita smietana)? If so creme fraiche would be unsuitable and you’d have to buy either double cream or whipping cream (extra thick doesn’t whip either)
