Having a bbq on saturday evening (only 4 of us) and want to do something other than sausages/burgers etc... and our usual fail safe has been done too many times...

So, any ideas would be gratefully received.

thanks !

sorry - should have added it must be meat (but any form of meat fine !), one of our friends won't go within a mile of fish and neither male would be impressed by () veggie food.

So, how does one do the lamb ?

thanks ruby - unforetunately (and here's part of my problem) the same man that won't go within a mile of fish won't go within 2 miles of a mushroom. Here's what I need to avoid:

fish
mushrooms
tomatoes

theres lots of other veggies too but think most will be able to be substituted (or aren't bbq-y either).

do the kebabs without mushrooms
they are lovely just marinated in olive oil and loads of lime juice

why don't you do a minced lamb kebab - squish the minced lamb round a kebab stick (chop up some rosemary and onion into the mix)

bbq'd tuna steaks?

nice one for dessert is if you slit open a banana skin and place dark chocolate chips inside it and then put on bbq. Serve with vanilla ice cream MMMMMMMM. May not be too posh but tis v yummy...

oh forget tuna then.

Ummmm chicken marinated in vinagrette over night and then bbq'd

lamb chops with mint and garlic

lamb burgers on foccacia bread (rather than normal beef) - use lamb mince and heaps of garlic and chopped fresh rosemary salt and pepper

when we go camping, we put tuna (you could use swordfish or anything similar) in a tupeprware with a tin of coconut milk, juice of a lime and chiilli to taste, then barbecue it when we get there, and serve with griddled vegetables, and new pots which we do by buttering (and seasoning) foil, then wrapping pots in it and simply baking on the grill.

For travel i freexe the tupperware then it defrosts as we go, but at home just amrinade in the fridge

Or venison burgers - now they are good and kind of posh.

ooh am going to save these tuna recipes for when its me and dh and some fish loving friends...

Now, venison burgers - I had found a recipe for venison sausages with a red onion marmalade but as you just go and buy the sausages thought this was cheating a bit.. so burgers might be good if I could get minced venison...

sorry got half way through post and had to go and attend dd so missed some others.

The marinated beef sounds nice - DH has a thing again kebabs though, not sure why - I think he doesn't like turning them on the bbq !

(see what I'm up against... a fussy chef and a fussy eater... sigh...)

good point about the venison burger... maybe I'll just do the sausages after all (off to check ocado for venison sausages).

go onto good food site - has lots of ideas.

This months magazine was a barbeque special - lots of good ideas in there that won't be up on site yet.

Not all kebabs either

Bit harsh moondog but I agree its somewhat irrational. Will discuss menus (and his deep seated psychological problems with all things skewered) this evening
