Best Earl Grey Tea - Recommendations

Smalldogwatchingsquirrels · 26/01/2019 12:49

Looking for recommendations - I am cutting down on wine, so happy to splurge on a premium quality. I have been disappointed with teapigs (ok, but not worth the money) and by an loose earl grey that had blue flowers in it (birthday present from DS that I ended up throwing away 🙁).

I am happy with loose tea or bags. Also I know it is sacrilege to some, but I add milk to my Earl Grey.

My fave is from Bettys tearoom, you can order online. Clipper organic good also, and Whittards, got that in Waitrose I think x

I like Clipper Organic Earl Grey tea bags.

I like Clipper Organic. I've tried a variety including v expensive ones but I don't think they're nicer. Used to love Twinnings but then they changed the recipe 10 years ago and no longer as nice.

I get them individually wrapped - the taste is better when they're fresh.

Best Earl Grey tea by far I have ever had (I only drink EGT) was from the website Nothing But Tea. Truly excellent loose leaf in resealable bag, kept fragrant and delicious until I'd drunk the lot.

Although another vote for the Clipper ones too, if you want teabags.

@HoliestGoat if you like the old Twinings Earl Grey I believe it is still available via the Twin8ngs website.

Clipper tea seems to be popular, so that’s definitely one to try.

@hairygodmother. The Nothing but tea website looks great. I love that they do samples

alwayscheerful alas no, they've a few different versions but they're all a bit 'novelty. Sad

I think the Nothing But Tea is worth it because, whilst a bit more expensive, the prices are not exorbitant and the tea is delicious.

Williamson tea - I get it in Waitrose. Beautiful.

If you like Earl Grey then you might like M&S Empress Grey too. Slightly zesty but really fresh and light too.

@Tamarasnotmyname. I do like the M&S Earl Grey teabags, but haven’t tried the Empress Grey - I like the sound of “zesty”. The only trouble I’d it is a 14 mile round trip to the nearest M&S, so I only go there if I need other stuff as well.

Williamson. By far the nicest I've tried (and I've tried a lot!). They do them in Waitrose and you can get online.

I like Waitrose own. Stronger than most Earl Grey.

tesco finest, decaff, it's not too froufrou though, lightly scented

I had some of the earl grey from teapigs and they were rank...like making tea with over perfumed potpourri, and I actually took them back to tesco for a refund as the bags were falling open, too expensive to just chuck out

Twinings, though the Aldi one really isn't at all bad. I don't rate Clipper myself.

I just got some from Jaju Beans and Leaves, and it's in compostable packaging too. And is LUSH.

I like Tesco Finest Earl Grey too, not too strong.

Ohhh I've found my people 😊
I only drink Earl Grey. Both Tesco Finest and Waitrose own are nice.
I like Twinings 'The Earl' which is sold in Costa but I've never seen it available to buy for at home. It's different to their normal Earl Grey tea.
My favourite 'treat' tea is by Tea Vintage. Lovely silk bags with rolled leaves and pretty little blue flowers...
I was given a box of Fortnum and Mason Duchess Grey teabags by a friend recently. That is really nice, much lighter and fresher than Earl Grey. Nice for a bit of a change but my heart definitely belongs with the Earl.

If you like the sound of the M&S empress grey and have a Waitrose near you they do a version called marquess grey. I think it’s got extra citrus in it and I’m rather partial to it.

Thanks Beth! Will try!
