Hi all,

I want to vary my meals but would want to know what products i can use for my 7 month old as they are getting boring. can someone give a list?

i use a lot of sweet potato, spinach, starting to use cheese, broccoli.

Is there recipes online of a link someone can suggest?

can i use lentils?

I have Baby & Child Vegetarian Recipes by Carol Timperley, it's really good, and I still use recipes from the toddler section 5 years on! Has lots of info you need to know.

Honestly, your child can eat almost anything you eat except honey or anything salty. Lentils, turmeric and herbs are all fine.

Super. I knew about salt but wasn't sure about honey. Puts my mind at rest. One can salt be introduced into a babies diet?

Thanks

Babies do have salt, it's present in milk for starters, you just don't have to give them too much.

She'll be fine with most things, if the food is a bit spicy, you can always stir in some natural yoghurt to cool it down.

Sorry, is normal cows milk safe to give even though she is still being breast fed?

Thanks

Cows milk is fine in cooking and cereal after 6 months, just not as a main drink until they're 1.

Yes, full fat cows milk in cooking and tap water is fine to drink from 6 months in the UK.

Are you doing purees or baby led? I use a lot of red split lentils and spinach in my baby's food because he is breastfed and I was worried about iron levels after 6 months. I've done a bit of a mix and DS loves leek, sweet potato lentils, carrots and spinach pur??e. Butternut squash and pear pur??e is another favourite. He likes to eat chickpeas as a snack.

Why are you worried about iron levels lovely? I thought it was very rare for a bf baby to have anaemia.

I read advice like this (I'm in Wales but I'm not at home at the moment to look in my nhs book). It says that after 6 months the iron levels start to decrease and babies should have iron rich food. I didn't want to give drops so went down this route instead.

I'm no expert btw, far from it, I've tried to listen to nhs advice and I thought that spinach and lentils were good foods anyway.

The iron in breastmilk is more easily absorbed than other sources, so your baby will still be getting plenty

Agree with bunique. The iron in your bum will be fine Smile
