DUMPLINGS ROCK!!!

Inspired by Emkana, I made dumplings for the first time ever, they were delicious! We don't have them in Ireland at all so they were an exotic food for me but I'm a convert!

My dp and dss are vegetarian so I got the low fat veggie suet and made a really rich stew with quorn to cook the dumplings in, it was really tasty and we will be having it regularly this winter

half plain flour to a quarter of suet, mix with water to make a dough, season, add to pot for half an hour = yum

definitely SR flour. I do

8 0z sr flour
4oz suet
water to mix to dough

break off into ping pong size balls. plop onto top of stew for half hour.

Only chewy if you use plain flour

Should be quite light really.

Very finely chopped mushrooms are also a nice addition if you like that sort of thing.

Not chewy, should be light and airy in texture and sort of melt in mouth....

Mine were really light, not chewy at all and I put thyme and oregano and salt and pepper in them. They were fab.
No SEA no dumplings in Ireland afaik, I mean I've never come accross them there and I was a chef. They may exisist in the North but they are not generally known in the South. We don't have steamed puddings either apart from Christmas pudding. So no steak and kidney pudding and none of those treacly puddings either. Funny isn't it seeing as it is so close?
