Any good recipies for a mild chicken curry that the kids will eat ?

Since starting school 5yr old DS is eating things that he would never normally eat at home. I never in a million years thought he would eat chicken curry but apparently he scoffs the lot. Does anyone know of a nice mild curry recipe that I could try and get his fussy sister to eat too ?!

Yep - Annabel Karmel's one. Basically: chicken, mild curry powder, apples, apple juice, onions and other veg as appropriate.

Cook the chicken, drain off fat, add curry powder, sliced apple, apple juice and allow to simmer. Cook veg, add to chicken, and serve with noodles/rice.

My kids like it if I serve curry with little bowls of flaked almonds, dried coconut, raisins and mandarin orange that they can help themselves to and add to their curry.

If your ever stuck for time the supermarket value curry sauce jars are usually mild my 6 and 3yr olds love them for a quick tea. Also if you make a curry and find you have made it a bit hot add natural yogurt until its mild enough

mine gobble this one up (or did until i accidently used an extra hot curry pasteShock now they won't touch it)

chicken breasts
2 large spoonfuls pataks curry paste, balti or jalfrezi(it says its 2 peppers hot but it isn't)
some chopped ginger if you want

fry this mix together until chicken is cooked.

add a tin of coconut milk and a tin of chopped tomatoes and simmer for 20ish mins until it has thickened a bit and the sauce is a deep goldy colour rather than a pale goldy

serve with rice

This works a treat for us: make what ever curry takes you fancy with your usual curry paste/ dry spices what ever. BUT leave out fresh chillies until the end. Divide a portion off for kiddies- add single cream (approx 2 tbsp) and a couple of teaspoons of mango chutney. Add fresh chillies to the adult portion.A lovey sweet creamy mild curry for the kids and a hot one for the grown ups with out too much faff!!

A bit like morchoxplz's response, I make whatever curry to please DH and myself and then add plain yoghurt to cool it down for DS 5 and DD 10 months. (It's not usually vindaloo hot anyway, more like a balti strength.)

It works for lots of meals.

Mine were funny about curry until I realised it was the chunks of onion putting them off. Now I blend an onion into paste, fry it with garlic and spices, then add chicken, a bit of tomato puree and coconut milk. They love it. They also like it with chickpeas or butterbeans in, and they will also eat it with chopped spinach now.

My picky eaters will gobble up this one
www.bbcgoodfood.com/recipes/1555/chicken-sweet-potato-and-coconut-curry
I now make it on 'autopilot' and frequently use carrot instead of sweet potato... And you can adjust or vary the curry paste to taste as well.

Hairy Dieters Chicken Korma is a HUGE hit in this house.

This is from Maddhur Jaffrey's Curry Easy and is, as she puts it "A gentle family style curry, if you leave out the cayenne this may even be served to very small children".

Serves 4
Olive oil
2 x 2inch cinnamon sticks
8 cardamon pods
Chicken thighs/drummers for 4 people
2 onions finely chopped
2-4 cloves garlic depending on taste
2 tbsp ground coriander
1 tbsp ground cumin
1/4 tsp tumeric
1/2 tsp cayenne pepper (optional, or to taste)
2 tomatoes, chopped
1 litre chicken stock
salt to taste

Heat a slosh of oil in a big wok type pan, put in the cardamon & cinammon, sizzle for 10secs, then add the chicken and brown until golden on all sides (may need to do in 2 batches). Put chicken in a bowl to one side, leaving spices in the pan. Reduce heat and add onions and soften until they start to brown a little. Add the crushed garlic and stir a bit, then add all the ground spices. Stir once or twice. Add the chopped tomatoes stirring until they begin to soften.
Return the chicken, and all it's juices to the pan with the rest, add the chicken stock and a pinch of salt and bring to the boil.
Cover and cook over a medium heat for 15 mins.
Remove cover and turn heat to high. Cook until the sauce has thickened.

Serve with rice, and a side veg - could just do peas/broccoli/cabbage or could do an indian spinach/greens/cabbage type dish.

My dcs love the chicken curry with sweet potatoes that anja1cam linked to. It's really easy too.

A spoonful of mango chutney also adds a bit of sweetness and depth to a mild curry. Big hit in my house.

I'd just make curry without chilli, cayenne or red pepper and add some coconut milk for sweetness, maybe some peas and butternut squash and then add the heat at the table - we use seasoned pioneers ground habanero, we just decant it into a pepper shaker and sprinkle it over our food. Kids love peas paneer - we call it cheesey peasy curry. It's store cupboard stuff as the paneer cheese lasts for ages, it's a great standby.

My mum gave me medium curry once when I was young, I had tears running down my face!

I loved school curries though with sultanas.
