Ooooh no. I wish they had focused on singing talent rather than getting big actors.

Russel Crowe's singing Confused though I did enjoy it.

Best of all time would have to be Chicago Grin

Admit some of the singers isn't broadway standard but I love the way it was filmed and the acting singing

It’s one of the few films I’ve ever turned off on a flight, it bored me rigid

That was a dreadful film...I wanted to leave midway through the first cat being strangled session but my OH wouldn't let me.

He now wishes he hadn't. Terrible waste of a good night in.

Yanbu I love it I only discovered it a few years ago. My order of preference would be les missing then Chicago then little shop of horrors. Can't wait till dd age 8 is old enough to see it live she loves musicals.

@Oswin glad it's not just me.
I love it and love the unique way they filmed it compared to other musicals 😬

Aww i'm afraid I can't agree. I ADORE Les Mis in the theatre. I cry the whole way through. But the film was so disappointing. Like a pp said, why did they have to focus on big names who weren't really singers? I'm including Anne Hathaway in that as she wrecked I dreamed a dream for me.

Les Mis in the theatre is the best musical of all time. But on film, Chicago did a better job for me (although again, Renee Zelwegger let the side down on the singing score).

I agree Anne Hathaway massacred I Dreamed a Dream. Overacted and she doesn’t have the voice for such a big song.

Samantha Barks and Eddie Redmayne were fab though!

I love Eddie Redmayne but couldn't get past his shaking head every time he sang a long note with vibrato....

The film was, in its own right, ok but I certainly wouldn't call it the best showing of this musical by a long shot!

Also, Russell Crowe was horrific in it...

I enjoyed the film overall but agree that some of the singing was shocking. Russell Crowe absolutely murdering Stars (my favourite Les Miserables song) was a low point. Thought Hugh Jackman's singing was pretty ropey too. His 'Bring Him Home's was NOT GOOD

I love the stage show, but the film was dire! Hugh Jackman was nowhere near his best singing in this and as for Russell Crowe!!! It was absolutely bloody dire!

I love the stage musical of les Mis and have seen it over 20 times and the film was ok, I've only ever watched once though. The best film musical for me will always be West Side Story.

Am I the only one who hates Hugh 's singing voice ? He is soooo nasal! The stage show with people singers is s million times better ! ...... habits big said that I think it's filmed very well and they sung live so it's grittier than the show .

Its not quite the show but I think it does the show justice. Nothing will beat it in the theatre though will it?!

The guy that played Marius in the West End (Alistair Brammer) was bumped down to a lesser character in the film to make way for Eddie Redmayne- fun les mis fact for you all there.

What about Moulin Rouge?

I admit that I have a youtube playlist of the 1995, 10th anniversar concert, but this just walks all over the film IMO.

I was going to post more but you've lost me to rewatching them all on youtube now Grin

Also, I defy anyone to not watch 'you will not touch him' from the 2016 Miss Saigon cast recording and not sob. How such a young actress gets so much emotion in her voice when protecting her son chokes me every time.

@drrisotto

Another Ruthie Henshall fan here - I think it’s possibly why I’m so annoyed Anne Hathaway got the Oscar for conveying a fraction of the emotion without a tenth of the subtlety!

Absolutely love the stage show. Nothing can top it. I was obsessed with Les Mis for a while as a teenager; even read the book. I used to listen to the music on a loop and even now when I'm on my own, I'll belt out a few notes.

(See what I did there? Grin)
