I really want to see it! Hope to catch it before it finishes at my local cinema.

Me too, Lass. And the threads of comedy and horror were so brilliantly juxtaposed.

As a side point - have you ever seen anyone who so obviously loves his work as much as Jason Isaacs does?

I saw it on Sunday and loved it. Very funny and brilliantly performed. I thought they balanced the horror and the humour really well. Could have done with a lot more Jason Isaacs though!

Could have done with a lot more Jason Isaacs though!

Wasn't he wonderful? And pretty much what my mental picture of Marshall Zhukov was.

Well apart from being Yorkshire. I loved that they just let everyone use their own accents.

Haven’t been to cinema in ages, but was thinking of going to this. Is it the kind of thing where “if you love Thick of It and Veep you’ll love this?

LassWiTheDelicateAir · 24/10/2017 22:11

I haven't seen Veep but if you liked In The Thick of It or In the Loop you will like it.

Really looking forward to seeing this. I know someone who’s in it so it’s very exciting! Apparently it will be on in more cinemas over the weekend. I heard that they deliberately got everyone to use their own accents because the actual protagonists were from all over the USSR and couldn’t always understand each other so it was to reflect that.

Saw it last night, thought it was great. Very (blackly) funny. Jason isaacs excellent coming in and literally kicking everyone's asses, whilst everyone else is just scurrying around whispering in corners. So many good performances all round. Loved it!

And what was the story with the truly terrible suits (except Beria)? Did having a good tailor mark you out as a lackey of the capitalists or something?

I loved it too - darkly funny, much more enjoyable than you would think.
