Does one ever get over bullying?

I don't think I have and it has been 20 yrs. I have blocked out so much but things keep popping up into my head - feelings of low self worth. I have a "happy" life and supportive family it is crazy I still think about being bullied as a kid. Does anyone else feel it has affected their adult life?

I am still haunted by it too. It is affecting the way I am trying to raise my kids now too as I can see my dd1 is exactly like I was and I would do anything to stop her from feeling how I felt. Bullying is shit but I think that by moving on and becoming the person you are you can win IYSWIM. I totally 100% blame the bullys for making me who I am today. I am a very shy, anxious person but I am doing my dambdest to overcome it for my kids. I do not want them to suffer like I did.

Thank God I am not the only one - I feel like a freak. I can relate SO much to the fear of your child going through the same. i don't know what your parents were like but mine were just hopeless at picking up on the signs and pretty dismissive of my feelings when I did talk about it.
It sounds crazy but one of the girls who bullied me mercilessly has contacted me on Facebook can you believe it? It has stirred up all sorts of bad memories and I am suffering at the moment

i think i have, i never talk about the bullying i went through at school.

recently i came face to face with a few of the girls who were so horrible to me and i stood in front of them, thinner, more attractive and more succesful than them and i think i finally got closure.
