Duloxetine prescription

Hi,

If you are prescribed Duloxetine for depression, can I ask how often you need to see your doctor to obtain a repeat prescription?

I’ve been on duloxetine for a few years now and returned to the UK about 18 months ago. Since then, I still have to see a doctor monthly to obtain my repeat prescription. Just want to check if this is the norm?

I appreciate the sentiment of care but I’m having continuous problems of being able to obtain appointments; the booking system will only allow appointments up to two weeks ahead and more often than not, despite calling at 8am for days in a row, when I finally get an appointment it’s usually after my meds have run out.

Thank you

I'm not sure why you have to see your doctor to get a prescription, there must be a reason for this.
I never have to see my doctor to get duloxetine, I have been on a repeat prescription for 2 years.
If I were you I'd ask your doctor to explain to you why you can't just have a repeat prescription.

Thank you for your reply.

I had typed a different reply to you but it ended up being an essay, and I still didn’t feel I’d articulated myself well enough.

I have asked the doctors(s) and they said it’s because it’s not a medication they see prescribed very often and b) Made out it was standard procedure.

Each month I come away with the feeling that a doctor might decide not to prescribe it again.

They have in fact said the decision to re-prescribe lies with my GP surgery and not with the psychiatrist that I see every three months.

Writing this all down seems like I might be considered a patient at high risk, but I can’t think of why they might believe this.

Thank you for taking the time to reply Smile

Hi I'm on duloxetine60mg & repeat prescription but I don't see the Dr every month just reorder. Been on for few years also.
I haven't been given idea that it's medicine that's not usually prescribed, they were once low in stock & even out of stock at a chemist but since I get mine at surgery dispensary there's been no issues. As long as I remember to reorder in time..
Just thought I'd put in my experience.

Thanks for your reply welshheart.

I’ll ask again at the next appointment if they’d consider authorising repeat prescriptions, even for short periods.

I had to jump through hoops to obtain the initial prescription, even getting my psychiatrist in previous country to send a letter and call the surgery.

I’ve tried to explain that all of this causes me to become quite anxious that a treatment which is working for me might be removed.

The reason for me posting was to see if perhaps I’m being unrealistic and not understanding the different system here.

Thanks again.
