Citalopram 10mg

Hi there. I recently reduced my citalopram dose from 20mg to 10mg. I just cut the pills in half. The reason I did it was because I was having a few signs of highness or hypomania. I cut my own fringe and pierced my own ears again, amongst other things.

Since reducing the dose I feel good, as if I've "sobered up" in a way. But this is a really low dose of citalopram. Has anyone been on 10mg of citalopram and it's kept them stable?

Thanks

I was on 10mg for about six months for anxiety and it did help. However, I'd recommend you talk to your doctor before you make any changes Flowers

I once started out on 10mg but had to increase to 20 as I didn't feel it was working for me. Having said that, I've spent time on just 10mg while coming off them and it's still been fine/effective because I was on a more even keel by then. See how it goes for you - you might be fine with a low dose if you're not feeling too bad to start off with.

I was on 10 mg for a while when coming off Citalopram. It kept depression at bay. But the side effects carried on so I had to come off it.

I was on 10mg for about 9 months. They really helped with my anxiety but I did find that I would occasionally have manics hysterical highs and did get headaches on them.

I've been off them since Xmas, but so feel like might need them again as my anxiety is creeping back.

Yes I'm on 10mg and I have been for about 6 months after about 6 months on 20mg. I came off 20mg due to feeling lightheaded on them. I feel like 10mg keeps the depression at bay but I feel like I can tell that any less than that and I will start to sink.

My father is on a permanent 10mg dose and I am on 40mg permanently. No side effects. I have lowered my dose twice before, carefully controlled, but quite quickly develop a very low mood and self destructive tendencies. So I will probably stay on them for life.

Thankyou all for your replies. It looks like some of you have had success with citalopram 10mg. I will stay on this dose for just now. I see my CPN tomorrow so I'll be able to talk to her about it.

Hi, sorry to gatecrash your thread calmday.

I was on sertraline, but bad shakes and exhausted all the time. GP switched me on to citalopram, started on 10mg for a week, then up to 20mg - am 6 days in on full dose. But I'm still just so exhausted all the time! Can't tell if it's the meds or depression.

Has anyone else found this? Will it settle?

Came back to this to find my long and carefully worded reply to WunWun didn't post.

It basically said thank you to WunWun, and good luck to Calmday.

I'm feeling much better at nearly 2wks on full dose. How're you doing Calmday?

Hi ginfox. Glad to hear you're feeling much better. I've stopped citalopram six days ago, had some withdrawals but it seems to have passed now. I've been fine mood wise, apart from a slightly low mood when I wake up. I've ordered some 5 htp to help me with that, I really hope my pills come soon so I can start them.
