Adult ADD/ADHD advice on getting GP to take me seriously please.

Hi I've posted about this before under a different username but it's disappeared as it was in chat I think?

I've been to see my GP today to pick up recent blood results and broached the subject with the doctor of possible adult ADD, I printed and showed him the NHS symptoms page with the things that affect me highlighted, which is almost all the symptoms except for only a couple of the hyperactivity element.
He said he doesn't think I have it and that my problems are connected to low vitamin D and and borderline low B12 and folate?
But these are symptoms I've had all my life and I haven't had these low vitamin levels until recently, last couple of years or so.
He wants me to take prescribed vitamin D for 7 weeks and a multivitamin and have my bloods done again in 5 months.
I really don't want to wait 5 months to find out my life long symptoms are nothing to do with more recent problems with my vitamin and folate levels!
Can anyone give any advice on what else in can do?

Ok, so, my university have a self-assessment questionnaire? I could send you the links for you to print and complete? That might have a bit more 'sway' with the GP, at least to get you an assessment?

Take the NICE guidelines too and ask to see a different GP. State your symptoms and ask for a referral to a psychiatrist, rather than saying "I want an ADHD diagnosis/I think I have ADHD". I was lucky and had an understanding GP but some are still very set in their ways and think it's a "naughty boy" thing.

Ok, so the link is a student/staff specific one, but it's adapted from this add.org/wp-content/uploads/2015/03/adhd-questionnaire-ASRS111.pdf so you can use this one instead :)

Thank you Loops and that's great advice Ovaries I'll have a look at the NICE guidance tonight and see if I can see another GP next week.

Sorry @OvariesForgotHerPassword
I've just had a look at the NICE guidelines and to be honest I have no idea what to do with them? How would I talk about them to the GP? Sorry to sound daft but they're long and confusing and I haven't a clue where to start.

I never had to take them in but on a few websites they recommend taking it in, I think there's something about anyone with ADHD concerns requesting a referral should be given one or something?

Ok thanks I'll try and read through them a bit tomorrow and see what I can dig up, looks long and tedious so hope I can concentrate for once 😂

Hello,

I'm seeing my GP tomorrow over the same issue, same symptoms. GPs are not allowed to diagnose ADHD, so they have to refer you as otherwise they are practically saying you don't have it. Xx
