Has anyone tried kinesiology?

I'm thinking of trying this. I suffer with depression & have trauma from abuse in childhood. Can anyone tell me what to expect? I have had lots of counselling & psychotherapy but nothing helps.

Is that muscle testing?

Yes it's supposed to help balance & help with past trauma. I don't know too much about it but someone has suggested I try it as nothing else has worked.

From the studies I've read it's no more effective than placebo, my personal opinion is that's it's rubbish, however placebo is shown to be effective in some cases so it may work for you even it there is no proven scientific basis behind it.

Hi Aquamarine, I have, yes. I was part of an NHS trial; it wasn't taken up. I found it quite strange, but it was an hour a week with a very nice lady and an opportunity to talk when I really needed that. As greater says, studies put little or no faith in it. For me, talking without the hair flicking would have been better, and is what I'm doing now. However, you say you've tried that. What does your GP say about next steps?

OP yes I do have a mate that was helped by it but for different reasons (she had a list of supplements she was taking and wanted to see which one to take so did muscle testing on all of them) so not sure if it applies to you but yes it helped her massively

Thanks for your replies. I am a bit dubious of trying it as it's $90 a session here in Australia for one hour. I'm not sure if I'm going to end up wasting my money.

Aquamarine I have not tried this.

What I have tried and can recommend is Emotional Freedom Technique, practised by yourself. I don't know why it works but it does in my opinion. Trapped emotions come to the surface of your mind and are released through the process. Physical signs are yawning involuntarily/ crying (in a way that feels like a release).

You go on and on through levels of thoughts and feelings like peeling an onion.

It may in effect be a form of Mindfulness, but that is just my personal explanation of why it seemed to work.

You do have to commit to doing it a few times a day to get an effect though.

I had not had major trauma like you. On the other hand if you have tried counselling and it did not help, what would you have to lose?

It may in effect be a form of Mindfulness.

I do not have the book I used to hand but could look for it later if your are interested.

The other thing that hellps is Magnesium, zinc, vitamin B and Vitamin D (unless you live in a sunny place)

Sorry, it is not just trapped emotions in a vague way - you see in your mind's eye what they are about.

OP have a look into nutritional response testing as well - I'm in a yahoo group for something different and lots of them speak highly of this

Good luck x

It depends on who you try and what techniques they use, there are a lot of different fields within it. If you can find Moira Dempsey who is AU based, or anyone trained by her, then she does some very good work with trauma and stress using Kinesiology and I've had a lot of relief from it.

If you are on Facebook, check out the group "Emotion Code Heals the World". I've got the book (Emotion Code) and it clearly explains muscle testing techniques to use on yourself. No need to pay someone else to do it for you.

Perhaps there is no science proving it, but it has helped me process past grief and trauma, alongside meditation so I see nothing but good to be gained.
