I'm going to ask my GP about PTSD...

I've made the appointment.

I feel there is a good chance I have had it for some time.

I know that I need to be assessed properly and find out so I can get the right treatment.

I don't want to have it.

My appointment is on my birthday!

I wonder how long it will take to find out? Will I have to fill out forms in triplicate and be referred and rereferred and rerereferred?

That's it really... just wanted to tell someone!

Hi usually a referral to a psychiatrist is needed for a diagnosis of PTSD so if your gp thinks you may have this then ask for the correct referral. Like all NHS referrals you will be seen for assessment within 18 weeks.

There are specific criteria for a diagnosis to be made. Hence gp's may suggest this as a diagnosis but the psychiatrist can confirm or disagree, this making a correct diagnosis. With a gp you get 10-20 mins, with a psychiatrist they have the specialist knowledge and more time.

Oh and only forms you fill in at gp are general depression ones, not for psychiatric diagnosing of PTSD if that helps.

Yes I assumed GP would have a quick chat with me about it, then refer me and wait for an appointment to come through, several weeks later. Then there will be forms. Many forms. I hate forms...
