I stupidly stopped taking citalopram for anxiety and depression a few months ago - in the last few weeks I have felt awful so my GP has put me back on it. I have been taking it for ten days and feel dreadful - shaky, nauseous, inability to cope - feel like I am cracking up!
I am going through a divorce at the moment so it was pretty stupid to think I could cope without it but I was feeling ok - little did I know I was feeling ok because I was on the citalopram.
I just want to start feeling better - I am off work at the moment (I work for the family business) - when will I start to feel better? I can just about cope with getting my two ds to school and now I am back at home in tears.

Hi theo so sorry to hear you're having such a rough time and sending sympathy re: divorce. In my experience with fluoxetine it took 2-3 weeks before it started to have any effect, but it is definately worth keeping going. Do you remember how long it took to kick in before? Try and be kind to yourself, you're not well and having a tough time. It's brilliant you managed to get the kids to school. Can you take it easy the rest of the day? Get a bit of sun (if you have any?) Watch a fav film, have a nap... what would you suggest a good friend did in your position. Hang in there - the citalopram worked before and I'm sure it will again. Take care x

thanks Queen, I can't remember how long they took before - I had been taking them for a few years and didn't realise how well they were working for me - I coped so well during the split and it wasn't till I stopped taking them that I realised how much I depended on them!
Thanks for the kind words and the advice xx

I've been on citalopram twice in the last two years, it takes roughly two weeks to fully kick in. For me at least it was hell before that, but afterwards everything was great.

Thanks MissFredi - I have been on them for 13 days today and am starting to have little periods where I feel almost normal - I will see my gp on friday and am hoping she will increase the dose - I am on 20mg but was on 30mg before i stopped.
