Well I finally plucked up the courage to go to the doctors re my recurrent bouts of depression (previous posts), and I'm glad I did. I was very nervous before I went in but I have a really nice GP. i explained my problem and about my family history/ mum's problems. He reassured me that whilst depression can have a family link, more complex mental health issues, like my mum's has not got any family link so not going to inherit her more serious problems. Given that was always my main fear, i found that really reassuring. I'm already on amitriptyline for migraines, so he has upped my level so it will help depression too, and said come back in a month's time.
Thanks to all those on this board that have offered their help/ support so far!

I haven't seen your previous posts but good for you for going. It's good to hear a positive story about a Gp taking action straight away. Good Luck!

Thanks Naysa - I moved doctors just before Christmas and have to say he's worth his weight in gold! My husband is also a GP (at another surgery), so I promise there are some great GPs out there (tho guess I would say that, lol)

Good for you. My current GP is really good too and helping a lot with me and DC. Last 2 docs we had at diff surgery were useless. one accused me of being neurotic.

Glad you are getting the help.

Hi Milly,
so glad you managed to speak to a GP - we chatted on another forum and I remember how apprehensive you were so I'm delighted you got there and the GP was good. When they're good it makes such a difference doesn't it? My usual GP went on maternity leave recently and the GP I've seen since has been brilliant. When I'm feeling better i will be sending her a big bunch of roses Smile Anyhow hope you soon feel the benefits from the Amitriptyline. Take care x

Marj - glad u have a good GP too. It makes a big difference!

ColouringInQueen - i remember our previous chat. You were so supportive - thank you! How are you? The flowers are a lovely idea - was thinking it might be nice to get a small thank you gift for my GP but it's a man and was not sure... My husband is a teetotal, vegan GP so all bottles of wine/ boxes of chocolates etc are lost on him!

Hi Milly,
you're so welcome Grin I have been worse over the last week - not helped my DH being made redundant and then he had to go to Glasgow for 3 days last week which didn't help. But am getting much better support from new GP, DP will be at home more in 2 weeks time and I am learning all the time about pacing myself.
Pressie is nice to think about isn't it. I have to say I have never met a teetotal GP Wink so something in a bottle? (you could always ask a nice receptionist if that sort of thing would be appreciated...) take care and all the best x

Sorry to hear things have been worse for you. It must be a strain now that your husband has been made redundant too. Sounds like you are still trying to be positive though which is a step in the right direction.
Good idea about the present. Will ask the receptionist x
