Has anyone ever come off AD's without talking to GP?

I feel like I am getting better apart from the odd day here and there so have kind of convinced myself that I don't need the AD's anymore. I have been a bit hit and miss about taking them lately anyway and as far as I know I am o.k.

Anyone else given them up without the doctors say so?

Or am I asking for trouble by doing this? Confused

How long have you felt "ok"? I have come off ADs a few times and it was only the last time that it worked out (three years ago now). I waited until I'd been OK for 6 months and then took things very slowly - think it took about 18 months to come off them but much better than getting depressed again quickly.

I did took to my GP but probably even if they hadn't agreed I would have still done it.

I suppose what it is, is that I haven't been taking them every day lately, more like every 3 days or so. If I leave it even longer than that then start to take them again I start getting the horrible side effects like night sweats.Sad
So I was wondering about not taking them anymore but I would have to see how I got on.

Not sure how long I felt o.k.
I only been on them since earlier this year.

I did and the side effects were horrible- but it was seroxat so a terrible reputation anyway.

Missing the odd day isn't the same as stopping though, I would talk to your gp. A lower dose for a while is what my dr said he would have recommended had I kept him informed. He also pointed out how long they had taken to build up in my system and linked that to the need to come off and get them out of my system gradually.

Great that you're feeling ready to come off ADs though :)

Thanks for your replies. Smile

I think I'll have to take things one day at a time and see how it goes. If I need to though I still have about just over a months supply left but if I don't feel right then I will see my GP.

I would talk to your doctor first, you haven't been on them that long.

It is a very easy mistake to think "oh, I feel better now, I don't need them anymore", when really, the fact that you feel better just shows that your medication is working.

I came off mine to early as we wanted another baby and my mental health gradually declined until I have ended up off sick, back on meds and no sibling for ds.

Please don't make the mistake I did and stop them too soon.

I wish you all the best x

Seroxat here, and like Hermione says, it was horrible.Sad

I just stopped taking them...decided I was over my PND and death of father. I thought I was going to die...my joints ached, I felt sick.....

Definitely go to gp. good luck.
