How are you supposed to feel when coming off ADs?

I was on 40mg Citalopram, went down to 30mg and now on 20mg. I am going to go down to 10mg in the next few days with a view to stopping altogether.

I don't feel any different yet which is good. Will I just come off it and feel fine?

How quickly have you done this?? There is a two week lag with some ADs and you have to go slow or you do have problems. Perhaps you just don't need them anymore and you have managed to come off them without any problems.

Over about 2 months so far. I have just taken my first 10mg today and am thinking of doing 20mg and 10mg alternate days for a while and see how that goes.

I hope I will be ok. I am fed up with the wait gain. Sad

Sounds like you have done the right thing and it is paying off. :-)

I was on Mirtazapene for approx 5 years. 45mg per day at one point, then gradually reduced to 15mg per night. When I came off it last year with a gradual reduction of dose (under professional advice) I felt normal, just the same as when I was on it really. I was ready iyswim.

Unfortunately since then I have had problems with my ex and with my DS so I'm feeling very down and have recognised I need help again.

Best of luck for the 3rd. And I sooooooooo know what you mean about the weight gain. I've lost 3 stone since being off the ADs but I'm willing to put that all back on if it means I feel better again.

Hi MsNobody the GP told me recently that Citalopram affects your ability to feel full. I was Shock So that's why i am always ravenous.

My weight gain is starting to make me feel down which isn't what I wanted. Sad

Sparkling if you are ready to come off them, then you will feel normal, you won't notice a difference in your mood etc.

My only advice is to make sure that you are getting plenty of sleep and eating properly, otherwise you will feel down and worn out from that and it could start a spiral of anxiety etc.

Good luck :)

I have started on Myfitnesspal and I have started walking again. I did 3 miles today and yesterday.

I have noticed that my sleep is a bit disturbed again Ali. I find I keep asking myself if I feel okay, and asking DH if I seem any different. Smile

I used to take mine at night, and it kind of knocked me out. I found I had to find new ways to switch off at night.

Re sleep, one of the negative effects I found was I had kind of lost the ability to fall asleep naturally because the ADs were sedative and I took them at night.

However, that did improve eventually and like Ali says you have to find new ways to switch off at night.

Good luck and well done on the walking. That in itself is a good sign imho.

I wouldn't have had the energy before to do the walk. But I really enjoyed it and felt quite invigorated. Grin
