Dime

Do you mean Borderline Personality Disorder?, If so, the internet is not the place for self-diagnosis.

If you are concerned about your mental wellbeing, speak to your GP for further referral.

What would I get fro a diagnosis .what I mean is how wouldn't benifit me?I can only see the negatives, loss of freedom etc being labeled and judged.i have acsessed councelling before and if I was in need of anti depressants I would say other symptoms so it's depression ,which in my opinion is treated favourably x

Dime

What do you mean by, "what I have heard happens to other people".

If you are deeply concerned about your mental wellbeing , the GP is your first port of call.

Take care

I have a PD diagnosis and to be honest it hasn't changed how they treat me, they are quite happy with me if I handle my medication and make effort to manage my life with the appropriate counselling and assistance. I've never felt like control of my own life has been taken from my hands, it wouldn't be unless they felt you were a risk to yourself or other people, and if you were then you have to accept that it's better off for them to manage your case more intensively.

What I am saying is that it isn't the label that changes the way your case is handled but your own personal attitude and how much responsibility you take for your own care/well being.

I have been diagnosed with BPD (tho our lot call it Emotional Intensity Disorder)

All that "happened" to me was that I was given access to a specific BPD therapy programme.

If you're managing on your own I don't see why you want or require a diagnosis tbh. BPD is a serious, chronic illness. It's not (contrary to MN belief) a label they chuck out willy nilly to anyone who likes a bit of an argument with the ILs.

May be worth going to the gp with your individual symptoms/issues at the moment and trying to focus on them rather than an overall diagnosis at the this stage. I'm diagnosed BPD (full or working diagnosis depending on which consultant I see) and have found that it has done nothing to help find a treatment path.
My sister is a med student and says that there isn't a united front of thinking when it comes to personality disorders, some thinking they're great, some not giving them or those diagnosed with them the time of day, so it is a little bit of a gamble pigeon holing yourself into this diagnosis after only internet research. (I pigoen holed myself after years of failed depression treatment, but now wish I had just focused on my individual problems and been treated like an individual and not an example from a text book, but that's just me). Sorry if I'm unbelievably biast about this.
Take care.
