Bloody Citalopram

Started back on Citalopram after a year of not having it :( bit disappointed in myself but hey oh.

Thing is the doctor had put me on 40mg straight off. I had my tablet yesterday, 2 hours later I'm throwing up and still haven't stopped. I can barely lift my head. I couldn't sleep last night because of the 'overthinking' and restlessness. I really feel terrible. I can't even sip water. I'm back at work tomorrow too. I'm too scared to take my next pill.

Any suggestions? I know you feel a bit off at the start (I was on Citalopram for 5 years previously) but this is horrendous and a bit scary.

I'd call the Dr and ask to be seen today, or for a home visit if you really can't make it in. Don't suffer x

Yikes, 40mg is the bit high isn't it? Can you go back and ask for a lower dose for the first few weeks? Side effects are awful though, sympathies

I know you've been on it before, but when I started on it they did 10mg for 2 weeks, then up to 20mg. Ended up on 30 though - it's just what worked for me.

Could you ask for the GP to phone you and leave a prescription for 10 or 20mg (if you get 10s you can always easily up it a few days in if you feel OK)

40mg is way too high for a starting dose. I would definitely go back to the GP and ask them for a lower dose - your body needs to adjust to it and you will need 2-4 weeks at least before you can be on such a high dose.

That's a good idea, thankyou. I started off on 20 last time and then 40. Can't help but think he's made a mistake giving me 40 from the straight off. I'll see if he can do a new prescription

Oh good, hope the horrible symptoms start to ease soon.

Another thought - I wonder if it my be worth speaking to your pharmacist and seeing if they could change the tablets for you if you have trouble getting hold of your GP

You could request a call-back from your GP to discuss this too...he/she can confirm details and write a prescription to leave for your collection...you shouldn't need an appt to do this...it is only to make an adjustment to your med's and can be done over the phone

In all honesty I can't really afford to buy another prescription Blush

I've just halved a tablet and had that. Wish me luck:)

yes of course...good luck Smile

Ask the gp to give you a script which is in 10mgs each...that way the dosage can be modified easily...next time...though I suspect halving a tablet may not work out properly and you probably do need to get a new script now....

Maybe you could return to the pharmacy actually and they would be able to give you them in a different format...make sure you explain the situ and take your ID with you, etc...they can probably do this for you...worth a try!

40mgs sounds very high to me. I was on 20mgs before my DS was born. 40mgs made me wacked out Wink

I was on 20mg when I was 17, at 18 it stopped working so I got bumped to 40mg (I dunno where 30 went) then felt I didn't need it anymore. Lately ive recognised the 'signs' and decided to stop it in its tracks.

Before that I was on fluoxetine. I can't even remember what that was like.
