Pregnant and not coping today.

Hi,

I don't post on here usually, but I feel very scared at the moment. I am 32 weeks pregnant with horrid pregnancy nausea and emetophobic and today I am not coping.

I am feeling very sick and panicking, I have a history of severe anxiety and panic attacks which I recovered from with the help of medication and CBT, but this pregnancy has brought it all back. I have to go and collect my 5 yo dd from school in just over an hour and I am terrified to go.

I can usually talk myself round and sort my head out in these situations, but today I just feel fragile. It may be to do with the fact that I have a cold/cough which is making me feel worse and that I have just found out there is a tummy bug going round mt dd's class, her teacher is off with it.

I have not told my mw about my heightened anxiety as there really isn't much she can do about it and I cannot go back on medication whilst pregnant obviously. I just need to calm down, but I just feel sicker and sicker as time goes on. I can't decide if it's because I'm panicking or because I am getting this bug, which is silly because dd hasn't even had it yet.

Sorry for rambling, I just don't know what to do.

I'm sorry you feel like this. The combination of being pregnant, having a 5 yo, the cold weather and feeling panicky must be very hard to cope with.

I hope the trip to collect your DC from school went ok. How did you cope? Did it give you any confidence knowing that you could get there and home again without any problems?

Is there anyone in real life who can help you? Anyone who can be with you when you need some extra support and some confidence?

Have you spoken to your doctor about medication? Do you know for a fact that you can't take it while pregnant? You might be surprised and find that there is something that you can take or do to help even while pregnant.

I hope you are getting the support you need at this time. The people around you in RL are those best placed to help.

Hi
I have never posted before but after reading your post felt like i had too. You are describing me!

For the past 10 years I have suffered on and off from anxiety and panic attack and have been on paroxetine throughout.

I am currently 36 weeks pregnant with my 2nd child, about 7 weeks ago i caught a tummy bug and BANG my anxiety and panic attacks came back with avengance to the extent that i was in hospital on a drip for 4 days as i could not keep any food down, No-one could tell me if its the pregnancy making me vomit or the panic attacks which i get when i vomit!

All i do is analyse myself about how i feel and question myself on whether its the pregnancy or anxiety. Ive been practising my CBT methods and slowly taking it one day at a time.

advice - get as much family support as you can a go to your gp and mw and be honest no-one will judge you.

Thanks for the responses, I managed to pick dd up ok, I did eventually calm myself down and was able to get to school.

I have recently moved around 180 miles away from my family, so I only have my dp for support (and he is very helpful and understanding), but he doesn't drive, so collecting my dd is my responsibilty.

I really don't want to take any medication whilst I am pregnant, but I will make sure I go back on it after the birth if I need to.

Taniar, I really feel for you with having the tummy bug, I just couldn't cope with that at the moment (I am dreading dd picking up the one from school), I really hope you are feeling better.
