Anxiety - Selp help?

Since having dd1 2.5 years ago I have had moments of serious anxiety. I have awful thoughts about what could happen to her and dd2.

I have got worse recently with all the reports in the papers about anti social behaviour and random attacks on people.

I dont leave the house much now and if I do its only to walk to my mums or I will go somewhere in the car when dp is home.

Any ideas of how I can help myself? My brother has been battling with depression and anxiety for over a year now and is on a 2 year waiting list for counselling so Im reluctant to go to my Gp.

Are there any self help books that will really help me?

There are loads of self help books. Try Amazon - they have a few good ones! Can;t remeber the names at the moment and as I am at work at the moment can;t check :)

I would recommend going to speak to your GP especially if you are avoiding going out due to the anxiety. Been there and its not nice but you can get better!

if you don;t get anywhere witht he books let me know and I'll post the names of the ones I bought when i get home!

Hi there - as your anxiety is actually bad enough to modify your behaviour (you not going out much) it is actually having too much of a negative effect on your quality of life to be allowed to continue. Go see your GP and ask for a referral for CBT counselling.. Don't let your brother's experience put you off, his needs may be different from yours or he may be on a different waiting list.
