They take a week to ten days to kick in but then they even you out very nicely, I took them short term last year for a creeping depression. They have a great side effect of curbing appetite and generally made me feel calmer and more capable.

They decimate sexual urges though. Hence my short term usage of them.

I have suffered with mild depression for many years. Have been off and on Fluoxetine for a number of years.

Have to say that it works incredibly well for me. Am very balanced and calm whilst I am on them. The only reason I came off was because I convinced myself I was better.

DON'T do this. The reason I was feeling better was because they were working.

An taking 20mg per day and have been back on them for 6mths now and will stay on them as long as my doc says I need to be on them.

Have had no side effects atall if that helps.

I found the first few days a bit spacey. But after that had no adverse effects and found that it helped me see some sunshine. I came off them myself when I felt that I was more in control of life and less effected by the things that had made me so sad in the first place. I am considering it again as not coping well with new baby.

thankyou to everyone who has replied.

athrawes im now on day 2 of taking them and definatly feel spaced out! its strange like a numb drunkness.

glad people have positive experiences of them, all ive heard are the negative!

so are they for mild depression?

and also the appetite supression will be good for me as i tend to binge and over eat.
