Dd1 doing Grade 1. I'm so nervous for her and can hear her coughing.

They have started coming out, but am guessing for the lower grades...

Grade 5s coming out now. Overheard a couple of 'it was really hard's. I feel sick. Even though it is completely unimportant in the grand scheme of things!!

I'm telling myself that music exams are good training for GCSEs. I'll let you know how that works out somewhere towards the end of June.

Now there's just the waiting...

DD sas went well although one of the music terms is not on any of the grade 5 lists she has….but it is only 2 marks. DD is confident she has passed. Thank goodness!

Dd out after 45 minutes ("I checked lots!"). She's only 8 so this was quite a big deal for me. She said she's 100 per cent certain she's done the best she could. Bless her.

Dd was thrown by a German word.. She guessed and got it wrong. She said it was harder than any she had practised at home but thinks she did enough to pass
Hope everyone's dc did well

I'm really hoping she's passed. She's been getting over 90 consistently with practice papers so I'm hoping she hasn't put too much pressure on herself.

Next: Grade 1 violin a week on Monday.

My DD (10) did Grade 5 last night. She also guessed the German word wrongly! In fact, she put the total opposite! But she said everything else was fine. She has Grade 5 Flute on Wednesday, complicated by the fact that she got braces yesterday, aargh!

DH was supposed to be taking G1 flute this session but missed the deadline so he's doing his G1 challenge with G3 with LCM next session. We've never done a grade exam with LCM so it's new territory for us. DS is doing nothing bar the minimum until he's got his GCSEs behind him. I did manage to slip instrument practice into his revision timetable, he left the file open on my laptop and the opportunity was too good to miss.

Don't have a clue why I posted this ^^ here when it would have been better in the all - in musicians thread. Just ignore me whilst I slink away.

I'm curious - what was the German term?!

Actually, dd said there was something she'd not come across in the millions of papers she did either - put note values in order from shortest to longest.

According to the ABRSM website we've a month to wait for the result!

Don't know.. But dd guessed 'lively' and she told me this morning ( after googling) it was supposed to be 'peaceful'.
So kinda the opposite Grin

Report
Wafflenose · 03/03/2016 13:37

Yep, ruhig = peaceful, and DD guessed 'lively' too! She just didn't have time to learn all the words.

I have seen the longest to shortest/ shortest to longest thing with notes and rests on various early grade papers before. It does come up from time to time, and kind of checks what they're meant to know anyway, doesn't it? (Crotchet = 1, Minim = 2, etc).

I was going to enter DD (7) for Grade 1 this term, but she wasn't keen. It's good to get some experience before Grade 5, so I hope she'll agree to do one eventually. DD (10) took Grade 3 last year, as a warm up.

Just got all excited as friend at work was convinced that her niece had done the grade 5theory last week and she already had results...so went on line. Nothing. Turns out she did it last term, but just told auntie about her distinction today!!

Has anyone any experience of how long it takes for theory results? DD driving me mad trying to work out how she did!!

Report
troutsprout · 10/03/2016 18:27

I thought it took a month for results?
( not exactly sure where I heard/ saw that though Grin)

I think it's a month too - sure I read that on the ABRSM website.

They have always said six weeks. In practice, it's often closer to five.

Well done to your Dd! That's fantastic!
Haven't heard from dd's teacher yet
Gosh I hope she's passed... I don't think I can take any more of those papers and the whinging ( Dd likes a good whinge) about the papers
