Do you take your kids to football/rugby/hockey training when it is raining???

We are newbies at sports training - ds is loving hockey and rugby

But I have no idea whether people still go if the weather is rubbish

Obviously if it is tipping it down its a no no
But what if it is raining constantly but not torrential - do people still go.............. and stand there in the rain while their kids run about

in the rain?

So do kids have to practice in the rain too - to toughen up???

In wind, rain, hail and snow.
You are expected to go whatever the weather!

The only time rugby training was cancelled was when the pitch was actually frozen and it was too dangerous.

But dd will have to come with me and ds as well - the thought of walking 3/4 mile to get there, stand in rain for an hour and walk back, all in the rain, is not the slightest bit appealling

yep football all through the winter , in heavy snow / rain etc only cancelled if frozen pitch

Yes and ds loves playing footie in the rain. The only time football training or match is cancelled is if the weather conditions are dangerous like frozen solid ground or pitch is flooded.
Yes the parents stand there in the rain too or maybe sit in the car.

Usually field sports like these are only cancelled if the groundsman decides that the pitches are unplayable. If you are playing on astroturf, only an earthquake or similar will lead to cancellation.
I have spent 10 years of weekends standing on the side of wet pitches, in the cold. You must suffer too!

Luckily DH normally goes, I will make him a flask of coffee up for the very bad weather

Seriously you need to get some really good warm waterproof stuff for the younger ones we have found as they do get cold stood watching in the winter. There is no such things as bad weather, just bad clothing was something i was told once.

If you live in the Uk then you have to get used to rain as a way of life.

You can't participate in an activity in this country and stop it because of the rain; you'd never do anything properly.

Do they/you have good waterproof clothing? Thermal undies for when the weather really IS bad?

hmm actually despite the fact I am one of those who will support DH every saturday when he plays rugby come rain or shine (and my 14month old is easy to bundle up). If you have to drag your DD there as well to watch your DS I do have a little sympathy. Any chance you could pair up with another family and take turns taking the DC when the weather is shit?

Honestly its not that I am a wimp about rain!

We live in wales and walk everywhere - rain is a frequent occurrence! Which is fine by me if we have a reason to go out

But to me going to stand in the rain for two hours (with a cold 5yo) while ds plays rugby doesnt feel like reason enough
