Running app beyond 5k

So I'm finally in my last week of c25k, yay! Only took me about 6 months

I want to progress further to 10k, half marathon, etc. but can anyone recommend a good app? Ideally something that will tell me how far I am while I'm running, but I'd also like to do some intervals as I've read a lot they can increase your speed, and I'm really slow at the moment.

Thanks!

I have a really good 5-10K app but unfortunately it doesn't do intervals. It's the Bluefin Bridge to 10K one and is really reliable.

I did find one that did intervals and speed work but the functionality was awful - much of the time the voice alerts didn't work at all so I had no idea when I was meant to be warming up/running slowly/running fast. It was a real shame as that was the only app I'd found that covered speed work and didn't just work on increasing distance but I ended up binning it after three runs as it just wouldn't work.

The Bluefin one is good but just works on the same principle as C25K - run/walk intervals with each run the same every week then a step up. There is definitely a gap in the app market for what we want!

There are Couch to 5K Plus podcasts on the NHS website. They build speed and stamina.

I'd also recommend Audiofuel podcasts (free if you have a Spotify subscription).

Nick Plus app is good for training plans and motivation.

You’re probably better off getting a running watch that you can set intervals on etc. I got my 1st one second hand on eBay, but there is a FB group running gear buy and sell where people are regularly selling watches they’ve moved on from, if you aren’t wanting to spend much.

I like the C25k+ podcasts and still use them years later when I want a particular type of run or to be back at a reliable time. I wish there were more podcasts like them and there seems to be a real gap in the market as I like the paced music and vocal commentary.

My GPS watch is programmable through its app but it is less "personal" than the podcasts.

Ok, thanks, I'll have a look at the podcasts.

I think I just want an app that would just tell me how far I've run in my ear at least. I will probably map out my runs before I go, but it would be good to know while you are running too.

Strava or MapMyRun will tell you pace at 1km or 0.5km intervals. I used mapmyrun for over a year but noone else I know used it so I missed out on the challengy side of things that Strava is more popular for.
