Can anyone recommend a good post-workout snack that works for weight loss?

I exercise in the evenings, after my evening meal. By the time I've finished and showered it's usually about 9pm so don't fancy much and nothing meaty. Any ideas?

Fruit? Cereal? Piece of toast? Hot chocolate/cocoa?

Weight loss wise you just need to make sure it's within your calorie allowance - doesn't really matter what you eat and when. I'm having custard after tonight's run Blush

Do you need to have anything? I always feel ok smug if I brush my teeth straight after a run. It normally takes any craving away.

Otherwise yes to pp, banana, toast, fruit and yogurt.

I don't exercise in the evenings, but I sometimes have a bounce ball for my post workout snack. They're quite satisfying for their size and lots of protein in them.

Yeah I was thinking for the protein. Aren't we supposed to eat something containing protein within an hour or so after exercise? Or is that a myth?

I'd just have a protein shake that late personally.

Do you have to eat?
I would shower, have a cup of decaf tea then hit the sheets!

I don't think you need anything op. You could end up undoing all your hard work if you eat. Are you hungry?

You should eat something with protein to repair your muscles. The list Dinky posted is a good one, I normally have a rice cracker with peanut butter, or some sliced cooked chicken.

Or an Arla protein yoghurt actually, they're rather nice.

Banana or a protein shake would be your best bet if you have to eat but I'd try not to if you can.

Bounce balls are lush. Expensive though. Naked bars are good and cheaper.

The protein thing isn't a myth, ideally you should have some sort of whey protein or protein that is quickly absorbed within 20 minutes after exercise, and a meal within 2 hours especially if weight training. If you're doing cardio, a protein shake would do it. If weight training, ideally a meal too, or blend up your protein with some oats and banana to replenish your stores Smile

What dinky said. Don't go for a protein shake, they are mostly unnecessary and processed. Good clean protein like dairy, nuts etc. if you don't fancy food then a good old glass of milk is fine
