Exercise

Fed up! Any good ideas

I love exercise and go gym classes (spin, combat, circuit type) 3 or 4 times a week. Used to run but now finding it boring and it's upsetting my knees. I tend to low mood and exercise really helps but....
Something has changed and I can't motivate myself. I went to the gym after work last week and was late for the class because of horrendous traffic. Normally I'd do some weights or kettle bells but I sat in the changing room for a minute, got up, walked out! Never ever done that before.
I've cancelled my circuit class this morning.

I honestly don't know what's wrong with me! No fitness buddy... tired of same old regime... Anyone been through this and any good ideas for snapping out of it. I feel a whole lot less fit than a couple of years ago, so new challenges/exercises maybe....?

Sorry for the moan! Please reassure/motivate/kick ass..

Sorry to hear your're feeling a bit crappy.

I don't do exercise classes, but I walk. miles and miles.

Can you get out in the fresh air, and do a bit of mindfulness whilst you're walking? ...look at the scenery, take in the smells etc. get into a rhythm, and keep going. by the end, i always feel better.

It helps obviously if you can walk somewhere that's open.

hope you're on the up soon. x

Thanks Chimchar, a good cob web blowing walk is a good idea. Thank you. It's just such a deep and profound sense of fed up and it's horrible! (especially when there's not much actually wrong) Flowers

Check the gym timetable and try out some different classes. Check out matafit, box fit, pump, spin - anything different to what you usually do really. I vary my classes quite often to keep my interest and motivation going.

I know how you feel, I was feeling like that. I retrained so couldn't commit to same classes I had loved and couldn't motivate myself to do anything by myself.
I am still time poor (and after 18mths lots wobblier!) but have changed my routine and started new classes. A massive surprise is that I am now doing Zumba once a week regularly (it is the only class on a night that I can always make) and I am genuinely loving it! I also have found 3 spin classes that I enjoy (we have different spin instructors at our gym and some just bore me), I aim to make at least 1 a week subject to schedule. Try something new.

Thanks for all the support. Long cycle ride this morning- got some vit D! I think I feel a bit more energised and will try one new class this week ! Feely mopey and unwilling to exercise is a whole new horrid feeling. I have had depression and exercised my way through and it's really important to me to keep the endorphins going. Smile

As a depressive personality, I also use exercise to relax. However don't get so obsessed that you can't enjoy it. Agree with PPs, but would also add that there's nothing wrong with just taking a week off & skinning out if you find other exercise doesn't help. Good to hear that an outdoor cycle worked though. I do often find that just being outside walking or whatever really helps.

Cycling is great specially if you can stretch it to long rides (in due course) exploring the countryside, just make sure you get the geometry right if using clipless type pedals - it will also buildup the muscles around your knee hence taking some pressure off the joint. Swimming is a good complementary excercise as it focuses on upper body and as a bonus it really helps with knee pain. Both yoga & Pilates help your cycling too.
