Brexit

AIBU to start to wonder if this petition might actually lead to something?

I thought nothing of it at first. Even when over the weekend it had got 2.5M signatures I still thought it was just a lot of people spitting their dummy out because they lost.... but now it's over 3.7M and growing, rapidly. So I've signed it too.

Do you think it might actually make a difference!!?

Errr, no

Yes. It's hugely fraudulent and even if it was adopted, it wouldn't be backdated to Thursday's referendum - it would just be in place for future referendums. There's no legal grounds to backwards apply this.

It's only 3 mil, too, and most of them aren't valid. If it got 18m, from the electorate only,
it'd be meaningful.

For clarity I meant yes YABU, not yes it will make a difference.

No. I voted remain and I'm really sad we're leaving. That was the result. There's no way we're staying in now.

More interesting, I think, is the petition to require politicians to tell the truth whilst campaigning, or at least provide the sources of their claims.

That would make the world of difference in every vote.

77,000 signatures have been removed by the petitions committee who are investigating for fraudulent activity.

  • David Cameron has ruled out a second referendum
  • it has been debated on here lots
  • it has too high a % of fraudulent votes, and no-one can accurately say how many, but it is safe to say that the Pope probably isn't interested in wanting a second referendum!
  • it would be totally against democracy
  • the number of people is a small percentage (still less than 10%) of the eligible voters, and still a small % of those who voted remain (assuming that they were all valid votes!)

not going to happen, so YABU Grin

It's not hugely fraudulent at all, the fraudulent signatures have been removed.

It doesnt mean a thing rules are rules Brexit won by nearly 2million votes and we are leaving. Remain voters are just been bloody pathetic now Tbh and people are sick of it, just move out of the UK if you obviously hate it so much

LilySnape · 27/06/2016 17:14

And everyone signing it are the people who couldnt legally vote anyway or didnt bother too!! There is no regulation on this petition or rules like a referendum has so it will never be real

Yes, it's worth signing the petition if it is something you feel strongly about. Lobbying your MP is probably a good (better?) course of action too.

The legislation put into place to hold this referendum did not specify it would be binding on Parliament. It is merely advisory. Parliament do not have to abide by the result. That is up to our MPs to decide.

I keep imagining the emails beeping into David Cameron's inbox and and out of office reply bouncing back...

Actually this petition was set up by a Brexiter before the voting day because he thought they'd lose. Now it seems like he's throwing his toys right out of the pram about it.

Strange because the remain people are being told by Piglet and Pooh to suck it up and get on with it in the bane of democracy.

Actually it'd be better if there was a Petition stating that David Cameron had no right to agree to leaving the EU without a parliamentary vote based on a referendum opinion, because we have Parliamentary Democracy in this country.

I hope it makes a difference. I've signed it and written to my MP who is pressing for a second referendum.

Last I heard they were still going through it having "only removed a fraction of the suspected fraudulent entries".
Some poor sod must have been doing overtime yesterday then if they've removed them all.

Ard you sure this won't a thread started just to post yet another link to this petition?

Silly, silly people, don't they want democracy?

Every time we have an election we can stamp our feet and do it over if it's not the result we want?

Give me a break. And the Remainers are saying the Leavers are idiots.
