Calculating public holiday entitlement for a part year worker

I'd anyone on here good at public holiday calculations? I work 45 weeks of the year part time (22.5 hours or of a possible 37) and I think my employer has done it wrong. We get 10.5 days public holiday a year.

Have you asked them to sit down with you and explain their calculations? It would be good for them to check their work and for you to understand the basis of the calcs. They can’t refuse to provide your entitlement but the calculations can be tricky sometimes

Thanks for replying. It's more that I think I know better than them iyswim! I used to calculate holidays many years ago and the way they are doing I think is wrong and it also leaves me with a deficit. I wanted to see if anyone could give me an answer so I could see if I'm right or wrong.

Do you work 45 weeks or are you paid 45 weeks? i.e where are your paid holidays?

I get an annual leave allowance based on my 45 weeks/part time pattern. The public holidays are calculated separately.

In that case I'd expect you to get 45/52.14 x 10.50 = 9 days pa.

Where are you that you get half day public holidays?

Thanks for that. I'm in Scotland. The half day was Maundy Thursday. The office isn't closed for this half day any more but it's now a "floating" half day that is just added to annual leave for full time staff. For part timers it's added to the calculation amount.
Your calculation is what they're doing but I disagree as I think the following; if a public holiday falls within the unpaid time it's not part of the calculation ie it would then be 9.5 days. As it turns out there are no public holidays during the time I'm off so I'm thinking I get the whole 10.5.
My reasoning of that if a full timer left after 45 weeks of employment they wouldn't have to have a deduction from pay for public holidays that fall within that 45 weeks. Therefore they would have the full amount for the 45 weeks they were there and if it was the same weeks as I work in a year that's 10.5 days. Their annual leave would be reduced/deducted from pay but not public holidays. Sorry this is so long as boring!

I find it easier to calculate in hours if working part time.

e.g 10.5 days x 7.5 hours = 78.76 hours

You should get 22.5/37ths of this = 47.8 hours.

....i am no expert though just how I work out my own. Then it depends how many public hols land on your working days, If they all landed on working days you will have to add some of your own annual leave.

forgot the 45 weeks....so 41.4 hours

Looks like you also agree with employer. Oh well, I'll admit I was wrong and take the deduction. It's not massive after all but every hour counts when it comes to leave!

That would depend on what their contract said about public holidays and also the difference is 45 weeks is effectively a full year for you, whereas it’s 45/52 for someone who left part way through the year

Are you allowed to take holidays during the 45 working weeks or do you have to take them outside that time?

I would expect you to get 7.5 days out of the 10.5 days so if the days all fell on your non working days then you would have 3 days of annual leave deducted.
