I worked there whilst at sixth form (so nearly a decade ago now...) Back then you could fill in a form to request a transfer and if the new store wanted you; they’d offer you an interview and then the two stores would sort out when you’d transfer.

It used to be possible to work at two for limited periods (ie for during summer holiday breaks at uni etc).

There was no guarantee that they’d find you a job in the other store, though.

Is it in an express or an extra store?

From experience they move staff about a lot in express stores and there were usually shifts available (once you were signed off and trained).
I think it's harder if you want to move between an express and an extra as they are run very differently staffing wise.

A friend of mine does. Depends what your q is? She moved stores and they counted her as a new employee at the new store so she lost any benefits / protections etc she accrued from her time at the first store. Seems harsh.

An express. Basics are got the job. started about 4 months ago. The manager is an arsehole. People leave. They are busy and short staffed all the time. She was told she could transfer after she got her contract and she would get her contract at 3 months. She got her contract eventually at 4 months (the manager didnt' tell her it was her contract just insisted she sign it) and now it seems it's six months before she can transfer without the manager's permission. I just wondered if anyone had up to date info. I would like some clarity as diferent things being said at different time. Might say to contact her union. She joined USDAW.

Sounds like most express stores.
I think usually you do need the managers assistance. I would contact HR, they will clarify. Sounds like the manager doesn't know their stuff anyway.

I wouldn’t have accepted the new job if the company tried to deprive me of continuity of service. That’s appalling of Tesco’s if it was a straight denial of employment rights, when transferring within the Tesco Stores group.

My friend has moved and requested a transfer. She’s been told no and is having to apply with the general public if a post is advertised where she now lives.

That doesn't seem right. She's still working for the same company. Miserly at best. Not surprising though.
