Please explain the SATS results and grading for class 5 and predicted marks for class 6?

We are meeting with DS class teacher this afternoon and we want to make sure we know what results mean.

He did VOLUNTARY SATS TESTS for class 5

We want to know what his PREDICTED/EXPECTED RESULTS for class 6 are

Please put it in simple language for me please.

{I am sure it is different from class 2 ones.}

I know yr 6 are expected to get a level 4 in their SATS. Thats the average. But they can be put in for the level 5 tests too if the teacher feels they are able. The teacher will have a fairly good idea in yr 5 what your son or daughter is capable of getting and this will be their predicted result.

My clever ds got all 5's (sorry proud mummy boast there) and he was predicted to get them. When you get the results it will tell you the predicted result and the actual result.

So to clarify. Youer son should get a level 4 at the very least. HTH

Would be also interested in this as was told this week by headteacher that a 4 in year 6 is an average score

(dd has just brought home Year 5 results - 2 5's, one 4b) do some get put in for a level 6 paper in year 6? Would like to know as it may help back up Grammar school entry paperwork if they do (and she did get put in for level 6)

Wow, well done to FIMAC1 junior! Thats excellent. My ds was predicted to get level 6's in his previous school (in Somerset) but when we moved here (LOndon) we found they didn't enter the children in for level 6

Ds passed the 11 + (grammar school test) and got into a fabulous school here.....but we are moving to the country in the holidays so he won't go to a grammar school.

We didn't do much revision at all for the 11 +, simply because I didn't feel he needed the pressure and also feel that you know deep down whether your ds/dd is capable of passing or not. Lots of children had tutors or major pressure out upon them and as a result didn't pass. Only 5 from ds's school did and only one of those had a tutor.

Anyway rambling, but it sounds to me as though your ds is more than capable of passing the 11 +.

There are no level 6 papers for Y6 any more.

There was an interesting and entertaining discussion about this last year between popsycal (a Y6 teacher) and jampots (I think) whose Y6 daughter's teacher kept insisting she was going to be put in for a Level 6 paper. (She wasn't!)

FIMAC, Level 4 is the official target for Y6, but quite a lot of them get Level 5. Level 5s in Y5 is extremely good! (Have we had this conversation already on another thread? I'm getting deja vu!)

Still don't know what to do over Grammar schools though as both local Comp and Grammars are insisting you put them as first place choice to be considered, and if she didn't do very well on the day of the 11+ we would be stumped as the Comp is always over-subscribed

If nothing else at least she might go into the top sets in the Comprehensive as they stream them apparently

oh Janh - I have enjoyed reading that thread again It was surreal at the time. That teacher is leaving our school on Friday and going to harrass some other poor kids somewhere else in teh West Midlands.

Well, we arehome now and the school did not want to tell us the results

In the end, she asked how much we understood about the levels.

I said that the average level in class 6 was level 4

And she said he was certainly at level 4 now but wouldn't say exactly what his grade thingy c, b,or a were but that he certainly has no problem with how he will do next year.

Apparently it is school policy not to tell parents the SATS results but they are in the process of changing this.

We had them - in detail - with the grades (Maths was a 4b for instance) and the standarised scores (the ones in the 100's), teachers assessments levels and the NC level, plus reading age and spelling age - surely you need this to help with your choices for this Autumn?

Did they say why they don't give them out?

We told her what our choices were and she said that DS would have no problem with whichever school we wanted to put him in for.

And that he was an academic child and had thirst for knowledge.

We hopefully will get more details next term, but I don't really mind now cos if she thinks that he is bright and will do well at the next school, then that was what we wanted to know really.

So whether it is c, b, or a, doesn't really matter

It is what his potential is, that is important IMHO

I have no idea why they don't just tell everyone when we get the reports. >

Yes the scores last year was the same business in that they would NOT tell us

In the OFSTED questionaire we put it as a very irritating point and so that is why I think they are going to give them out but DH and I can't work out if she meant next term or for next years year 5.

LACK of Communication is the one area that really bugs us about the school

They just don't seem to get "IT" and that parents want to know what happens to their children.

Yes am very very pleased and proud to hear that she says he has the potential

She did say that he had increased his scores by 2/3 and in science he had gone up 3/3 during this last year.

We are in catchment for grammar school which he will do the tests for in november and also for DH private school which he will do Jan 2006.

She said that she expects him to do well in any school we choose

So he will go to DH school, hopefully.

Thanks for that - she got Standardised score of 121 in reading, maths 116, and spelling 118, NFER group reading test II 130 - which one of the standardised scores do they look at?

Thanks - we are torn about whether to take the risk and put Grammar as first choice in the Autumn or not, as we lose the place at our local State school if we do

Also, although we have been given these results, it was in with the end of year report, with no explaination of the levels, her teacher when prompted, said they were 'very good' but I had to ask! Hence asking helpful Mnetters for advice

Just found this thread - our school don't tell you what the kids get in year 4 usually, but our ds, who has been the bane of his teacher's life this year, did sats in may. She told us his results as she was so shocked!!
Despite not giving in any decent work this year or pulling his weight (apparently), he walked them getting 4a or 5 for all subjects. Very proud mum - wonder what he could achieve if he did actually work??!!

Our area (herts) has level six papers, as my dd in year 5 sat them for maths.
