College missed an AS result - track showing unsuccesful because offer not met

Ok - DS planning to take a Foundation Degree at a FE College .
Track finally updates at midday today to show him as unsuccesful .
After much phoning he discovers that college have no record of one of his AS results and that as far as they are concerned he's not met his offer requirement .
Hopefully this is now sorted (UCAS confirmed the missing grade to the college ) but does anyone know how this could have happened ?
All DC's exams and results were on his UCAS application so how could the college not have "seen " one of them ?

( and nobody says "whoops ,sorry " or offers to pass me the Ibruprofen I need for my blinding headache )

I don't think its a case of nobody caring ginge, its probably because its Friday night and people are busy.

I really don't understand your post. Presumably your DS got his results yesterday so track should have updated yesterday surely? I know there were problems getting through yesterday due to the volume of students etc but that is appalling that they didn't update until today and have missed a grade.

Hopefully as you say all sorted and presumably his place will now be confirmed but I think you are right to be wanting answers as to how a mistake like this could happen.

track crashed yesterday and they have had a backlog to catch up with today, the info this morning was that they planned to catch up with backlog by this afternoon. may be as a result of that. maybe the staff have worked flat out catching up.

Sorry mumofsoontobe - being grumpy and oversensitive !

All day Thursday track was showing the offer as conditional .it didn't update to "unsucessful" until 11.30am today .
DS phoned college ,they said you've not met offer ,you've only got X .
He asked them how they'd got that figure and discovered they were omitting an AS ( there were no special exclusions of subjects etc in his offer letter ) .

He phoned UCAS who confirmed all his exams to him and told him to get college to contact them .
College phoned UCAS and DS ,said it would be sorted and track ammended in next 24 hours .
Track has changed now - but back to conditional ( !!!!!! ) and still not sucessful.

Can't bear it .

he needs to scan his results letter and email it to the universitys administration for the faculty he will be with, It seems this is the colleges mistake and not uccas.

has he been on ucas site on face book they are very helpull with QandA and will advice him further of what to do now.

Thanks festi - good advice .
DS probably the only teenager in the world who doesn't do Facebook .
I can't believe that this won't be ok but feeling sick .

One of DDs friends got to college a couple of years back to collect her A levels and wasn't on the list at all, no results and not even listed.

College rang exam board and they said she was not on any of their lists and they had no record of her taking any A levels.

Luckily when she rang her 1st choice uni in a panic they said they had been notified of her grades and her place was confirmed. It took 4 days for the exam board to find her and confirm her results!

oh Lord ,poor child and poor parents .
We've already had AQA telling us that DS not entered for one of the modules he resat last summer ( and got a B ,excellent for him ! ) .
We're still in process of sorting that one ,despite me querying it last October !
He has enough points without that particular resit ,so don't think it's that causing the p[roblem.
Right ,off to hit the phones .

Hope you get this sorted today - it's such a stressful time!

thanks jgb - Good Luck to you as well ,I know you've got troubles too !

Ucas say it's the college/university who physically make entries on Track and they obviously can't help .
Praying college's switchboard will open soon and that they're in today .

College not answering of course - I suppose shut for weekend .
How mean to tell DS on Friday that it would all be sorted but that the update wouldn't show until today .
And then change it back to "conditional " ( conditional on what!!!! , he was interviewed back in April offered a place ,has met all the requirements ) and bugger off for the weekend .

And they're sitting on a nice £700 accommodation deposit from us .
Different dept I know ,but ,but .

I imagine the conditional just means that it's been reverted to "waiting on results" - I don't think it means anything bad. I doubt there is anything you can do until Monday, but don't panic! They won't be doing anything until Monday either. It'll get sorted.

Thanks BB .
It's just that they've got the results ,and why didn't they tell DS yesterday that they were going to revert it to conditional ?
I just want it sorted .

I thought they didn't have the correct results though, because one was missed out.

I'd imagine they have reverted it because they only have those three options. "Conditional" basically means "Awaiting results" anyway, so it seems like they have changed it back in order to reassure you that it's being looked at, rather than leaving it.

The one they've missed/can't see ( I don't know why ,I can see it on the online UCAS application ,which presumably ,as no hard copy sent ,is what they're looking at ) is for an AS which was sat previously ,not this year .

I don't want it looked at feet ] I want it accepted ,marked sucessful .
Though correctly spelt ,obviously .
Sigh.

But they only would have sent the results this year. He wasn't registered with UCAS last year, was he?

I can see it's annoying, but there isn't anything else you can do. Once you can contact the college it will be sorted out.

gingeroots · 20/08/2011 17:38

This particular AS was sat in 2009 .
THe details and result were included on his UCAS application along with other qualifications that he's already gained in earlier years ,like GCSEs .
I am missing something ?

ging it is because the uni wont change it untill he has sendt in the certificate.

Im going to uni in september and most of my GCSEs where taken in the 80s so I had to send them copies of my certificates. they did not update ucas to unconditional untill they had recived them even though it was on my application form.

Ok ,I have been wondering if it was something like that - and wondering why they hadn't asked for proof .

Perhaps that's all it is .
And them " not seeing " one of the exams is just an error/red herring .

Time will tell !
