eBay

advice re refunds

DH bought a camera that arrived today. It was described as excellent as new hardly used. But it has paint chipped of (metal casing) in various places, rather grubby and a dint in the bottom suggestive of it having been dropped.

He has immediately contacted seller asking to return as sig not as described, but we have a feeling seller will be funny seeing as they did not mention ANY of the above - though if he is then he will go throuh PP. BUT let's just say he does say no problem, return it and DH doesn't open a PP dispute - he is concerned if he returns it then seller doesn't refund what can he do then? Obviously we will send it back trackable and insured.

Thanks Smile

when you return it trackable you just enter the details (tracking no.) into the claim and ebay refund you the money - the seller has no choice if you have opened a not as described case

no I mean if we DON'T open a case - if seller just says return it

well if you have sent it trackable, and the seller refuses a refund then you open a case and enter the tracking info and ebay give you back your money.

I would just open a case to be honest - a lot less hassle, and if you open with paypal and not ebay, escalate immediately, your money is frozen straight away.

ok opened a case as he was quite rude, said it had cosmetic marks (even though he described it as hardly used) - but that is normal for excellent condition and he disputed everything else and ignored the request for refund saying the usual of "you should have gone for one from a shop then". Joy oh joy, watch this space!! Grin

ok - is it a paypal or ebay case?

if paypal you can escalate immediately, if ebay you have to wait 10 days to escalate

either way, send it back when you are told trackable, give ebay/paypal the tracking info and you will get your money back.

maxybrown · 11/08/2011 19:53

PP and he has already escalated no worries!

DO pp refund once the tracking info has been inputted or once it has been delivered?

DH is stressing that the chap will just refuse it

That is so freaking rude when sellers say that - I bought a bag from eBay that arrived mouldy. Seller told me 'If you wanted it in perfect condition, you should have bought one in a shop.' Makes you wonder why they list things if they don't think anyone should buy them (?)

Hope you get all your money back OP.

fergoose · 11/08/2011 20:03

yes once they have tracking i think the refund is 3 days

Don't worry, even if seller refuses it you will still get your money back, all of the original payment.

and yes I agree - rude lying sellers. If you wanted a damaged mouldy item you would have searched for that wouldn't you.

Some of them seem to act as if they are doing you a favour selling to you and think they can fob off any old filthy rubbish and get away with it. I had BNWOT from non smoking home jacket arrive today, absolutely reeking of smoke and filthy so clearly worn and used. Seller clearly lied and hoped to get away with it.

Oh and don't forget in neg feedback do not mention dispute, paypal, ebay or dispute

just say 'not at all as described, seller refused to resolve. very rude'

or such like, and mark 1 for stars if you want them to count, not marking stars does not count as anything.

we will thanks fergoose.

They are cheeky sods. He said even camera shops sell items as excellent condition with marks on - oh right well that makes it ok then! It has various chips, filfthy with dust everywhere and like I said a definite dint in the bottom. It's just so bloody irritating!

I also like it when sellers say "I'm sure someone else would be happy with it" BUT I'M NOT SOMEONE ELSE I'M ME!!!!

Out of interest will he get his fees back?

OP posts:
Report
fergoose · 11/08/2011 20:28

no he will only get his fees back if you agree to cancel the transaction - he will have to send you a request and you can just refuse it.

unless the cheeky so and so tries to open a non paying bidder dispute after the refund, in which case you just provide your paypal transaction reference and that is that.

Fergoose are you around please?

We are in shock! paypal have found in his favour, the seller disputed the case. DH is devasted as he is now £200 down and he will have to list it honestly and not make his money back Sad i have never ever experienced this before Shock

erm what? That was quick, didn't you send it back? did they ask you to send it back

what do paypal say?

Report
maxybrown · 14/08/2011 21:34

no, DH opened case with PP - seller disputed case (but we couldn't see what he had said which was odd), Paypal said we are deciding the outcome, they found in his favour! Confused

right I would phone paypal tomorrow yourself and speak to someone - this is very odd

I wonder if you can now open an ebay case now the paypal one is closed - will it let you do that from your my ebay via the resolution centre?

Report
maxybrown · 14/08/2011 21:46

Hmm, don't know. it is really really odd. It said "The seller has submitted an explanation describing the disagreement with
this claim. PayPal will evaluate all available information, including the
original listing and both the seller and buyer statements. A final decision
will be made on this claim in accordance with our User Agreement."

But we didn't get to see what he had put

I would definitely phone paypal and dispute this

Was the payment funded by credit card - if so do a chargeback with them

Report
maxybrown · 14/08/2011 21:50

ok DH said it was externally damaged and the status is now this

Status

After careful consideration, we're unable to decide this claim in your favour at this time.

The listing accurately described the item you received.

NO it wasn't credit card, think DH can't be arsed with it all now but so bloody annoying as he really really is telling the truth

well I certainly think it is worth phoning paypal. Can you not open the dispute with ebay then?

I think so too but DH is down trodden Sad Only thing I can think of is that DHdid not put enough of the issues in the case Hmm it just seemed so odd all of it - plus I thought you could see everyone's comments usually? Not sure why we couldn't see what he put. Also how do PP know it wasn't as described when they have never seen it?! [confised] it all sounded like a friend processing thje transaction almost - if that makes sense? It DOES work, DH never disputed that but it's tatty as hell considering it has hardly been used.

Are we a first for PP to have awarded in favour of the seller, even when DH wasn't pulling a fast one?!

OP posts:
Report
fergoose · 15/08/2011 10:28

No you are not the first, but it does sound very odd and I am very surprised

Your mister sounds like mine, but for that amount of money I would be nagging him to at least call paypal and dispute it with them, after all they could have made an error?

Have you tried opening an ebay dispute yet?

Report
maxybrown · 15/08/2011 10:47

NO he said he wants to leave it and will use the camera.

I couldn't let it lie personally but hey ho.

I'ts going to bug me for ages to be honest.

Thanks for all your advice though, much appreciated. Men!
