Has anyone been down the IUI route?

Any success stories, tips, facts etc?

Oh cool! That's ace!

What's your story? I'm due to start next month so don't know what to expect?

I've just done IUI number 4 with gonal F injections and donor sperm. i am currently 5 weeks pregnant. :D This was my last before i moved to IVF so i am very pleased that it's worked.

Prior to the IUI's, we had been ttc for 5 years but nothing seemed to work. In April we discovered my iron and Ferritin level's were pretty much non-existent and this was the likely cause of my apparent infertility.

My advice to you would be, if you haven't done so already, get a battery of blood tests and get a HyCoSy to check your fallopion tubes aren't blocked. You're wasting money on the IUI's if you don't. Trust me! :)

Hi Smile

Yeah I have had all the fertility investigations, blood tests, internal scan and hycosy tube test. All is clear and fine, I'm in a same sex relationship so that's why we are doing IUI with donor sperm.

Starting in October, what's it like? What's the process? Do the clinic track your ovulation?

I'm excited but nervous haha!

Hi girls hope you don't mind me jumping on 😊. I'm currently on CD12 of my first medicated IUI cycle (gonal f injections every other day). Had a scan on Friday to see if I had any follicles, had 1 either side 11mm & 12mm. Got another scan tomorrow to see if they have gotten any bigger 😊

Good luck SR3, it's so exciting and anxious all at once.
I'm now 15wk+6, seems like a lifetime ago but also a lifetime away until I see my little bean.
How is everyone else getting on?x

NHS, I got referred quite quick actually from my doc, she wanted me to wait longer but I said no cos of my PCOS. I have had all sorts done and loads of tests etc to get here feel like a pin cushion sometimes 😅. You did it on your own? That's great, i wouldnt have known where to begin. I have read so many success stories on loads of sites and it really does help just glad I found a more recent post with you girls on here because most of them are so old!

@pickle162 sadly our first IUI hasn’t worked Sad negative test followed by dreaded AF!

Ready to go again November, hearing that you took second time makes me feel better...how did you feel after first lot? I can’t help but feel negative about it all now but I know that silly at this stage. It’s hard to just crack on and start it all again.

@c307 I'm so sorry, it really is heartbreaking, I just tried to focus on it wasn't meant to be and wouldn't have been healthy so that helped me through. My clinic make you have a month gap in between each try which was horrible but equally gave me the time mentally to regroup
It's such low odds for anyone to get pregnant so try and focus that doesn't mean anything is wrong just that everything has to fall into place.
I was convinced second attempt hadn't worked and even emailed my clinic about ivf prices but I definitely tried to cram in as much during the two week wait to distract myself
Good luck for next attempt, just keep swimming x

Oh gosh, I emailed my clinic to say about going forward with November and have been booked in for a scan on day 10 so think they are letting us go ahead straight away? Hope so! I wouldn’t wana wait a month in between Sad

It is very hard to get no result but like you say chances are so slim. It’s just all the appointments and obviously all the money each month that put the extra pressure on. I have heard some people say IUI isn’t that successful and it’s best not to waste money and go straight for IVF Confused I hope that’s not the case.

My clinic is so small I think they enforce the month gap more for their sake rather than mine
Iui can def work just more timing specific- everything seemed to go wrong in my second cycle, follicles were growing slowly so had to change work about so much to fit it in but got a perfect size follicle when did the iui
But it's so stressful, had such bad upset stomachs from all the worry but here I am
17weeks pregnant with my little girl. IT CAN WORK :)
Ivf is soooo expensive and only really doubles the chances of iui but at like 7x the price per attempt. I always said I'd do 3 iui cycles then consider my options

I was reading into all the signs and symptoms this month after my iui and thought I possibly could have been, it was mad. Then obviously I wasn’t Confused so now I don’t think I’d get my hopes up as much with round 2.

Did you have and early signs with your second round? (The positive pregnancy) or is it all too early to tell before a test?
Also did you go in for iui the same day as getting a positive ovulation test result or the day after?

Thanks for this chat Smile haha!

Don’t know if it’s helpful to hear stories from a while ago, but I have three dc conceived with donor iui. My older dd has just started secondary school and I have a nine year old and six year old too.

Wow yeah that’s ace! Grin

How long did it take you to catch with them? Would you recommend iui then?

It worked for us. I was adamant that we would go straight to IVF because of the success rate, but luckily our consultant spoke sense. He was right to say that a) IVF is expensive and intrusive (albeit necessary in lots of cases b) I had effectively not even started trying as far as my own fertility went as my dh wasn’t able to produce sperm c) although I felt old at 31, I was, in fertility terms, very young. I’m glad I listened because I was pregnant after one IUI.

I’m not sure how many goes we’d have given it though. We had miscarriages trying for dc2 but essentially got pregnant all but one try and was pregnant first go with dc3.

I am not saying this to gloat, just to say that it is a good, fairly simple, relatively cheap treatment and worth trying, especially if there’s no problem with your own fertility.

And I had almost immediate pregnancy symptoms with mine. Positive pregnancy test three days early (I know-I shouldn’t have) and sickness a week after I should have had period.

Hey,

I'm 8 and half months pregnant after my second attempt at non medicated iui was successful.

Started looking in to last Oct on my own and went to London women's clinic in Harley Street.

It can become all encompassing so try and plan to have some other stuff going on at same time.

The chat thread that pickle recommended ( hi pickle :) ) was a god send me to and everyone was so supportive answering my questions about what to expect and supporting me through the process and the ups and downs,

Good luck xxxx

Hi everyone Smile Does anyone who has had IUI success know how the due date should be calculated? Does it still go from the last missed period or from the date of the IUI?

Report
pickle162 · 05/11/2017 12:29

@TreasureInMyTummy eek 8.5months!! Nearly there Hun! Make sure you check in once he/she arrive (can’t remember did u find out what your having) hope all goes well xx

@Sophronia so due date is usually based on date of first day of period but if like me your iui was 3weeks after cd1 rather than 2 then just go back 2 weeks and on online things say that was first day of period OR some do conception date and put that as your iui date -it seriously confused the midwife though

Hi sophrina - I initially put my iui date in the apps to work out due date but when I went to midwife she wasn't having any of it and said it would be date of last period like everyone else as I still don't know the exact date conception happened ( which is true as we don't know when egg actually releases or sperm meets it)

They also alter it slightly after first scan so mine moved again by three days.

Due date not be all and end all though, I read the other day 15% come on due date, 40% within the two weeks after due date and 40% within the two weeks before due date.

Hey pickle I can't believe how quick the time has gone by. Not been the easiest pregnancy due to sciatica and slipped disc I already have and I've had a bit of nightmare trying to move as well.

I pop back on thread when I can to see how everyone is doing and I love seeing bfps especially when I recognise people like you getting them from when I was going through it. I will defo pop back with pic when baby arrives (don't know sex so looking forward to finding out :) ) x

Thanks Treasure and pickle Smile I initially put my IUI date in the apps too which would make me 5 weeks tomorrow, but if it is done by the last period that makes me only 4 weeks 3 days - feel like I’m going back in time! So worried at the moment as this is my first pregnancy and I really want everything to be ok! I’m sure it’s not unusual to feel like that though Smile

Sophronia - I've worried about everything through most of this pregnancy so I don't think that's abnormal :)

I had chemical pregnancy first time so first few weeks so scared to hope second time round would be ok. Then found out I had placenta at front which meant I didn't feel kicks for aaagggeess which worried me as I just didn't get that daily assurance that baby was moving. Then I got gestation diabetes so last trimester I been panicking about baby being ok.

Someone told me take each day at a time and keep saying at moment I am pregnant and breathe. It works kind of :)

Congratulations and best of luck xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
