Has anyone managed to get a booster at a walk-in centre this week since the guidelines changed?

Just that really.

I am going to a walk in centre tomorrow and I really hope that they are able to give me my booster. I am 40 and 5.5 months since my second vaccine. I have a booster appointment booked for 2 weeks time which is the first date that was available on the system at exactly 6 months, but it's the morning of the day I'm supposed to be flying (assuming the flight goes ahead that is!) so I really really want it tomorrow.

However I've read that even though the JCVI have changed the guidelines to 3 months, vaccination clinics are still supposed to only give boosters from 6 months. Has anyone else managed it this week?

Took my son to a walk in, whilst there asked about me ( i'm about 10 days short of 6 months) receptionist said ask whilst son being done, did so but they were not interested in the new guidence saying they still had to stick to 6 months.

It is still 6 months, it takes time for JCVI advice to translate into guidance. We are still being told it is strictly 6 months.

My understanding about local ones are sticking to six months for the moment. Not moving with the speed we were given the impression of at the conference really is it !

That's what I'm worried about. It seems ridiculous to turn willing people away when the official guidance has now been changed!

I was told it's changing from 6 to 3 months since last jab, but not until Monday. ?

DH and I both got ours last weekend. I was 6 months + 10 days and he was 2 weeks short.

I had mine last night. It was a booked appt but they were also accepting walk-ins. There was a large notice near the entrance saying that they wouldn't vaccinate if your second jab was after 8th June.

In the NW - my friend volunteers at a vaccination centre and asked today. They're sticking strictly to the 6 month gap until officially told to change, but they're expecting change to be made from Monday.

I had a booster on Monday - 23 weeks - but it was a pre-booked session.

I just looked on the nhs website
It’s not changed yet. It says they are working on it.

I managed to find a walk-in who would vaccinate me three days early. I tried 3 pharmacies who were all saying strictly 182 days but the one who was happy to go at 179 days was a centre based in a library so no pharmacy owner being told to follow the rules.

I went to a walk in yesterday. I am 37, and second vaccine was end of July. Got Moderna booster.

I did.

Hmm... sounds like I may be better off waiting until next week to save a wasted journey. Annoyingly the walk-in centre is only open Fri-Sun which isn't much good if the guidance will change on Monday, but I may be able to move my pre-booked appointment (at a different site) earlier next week (at the moment the booking site isn't letting me move it earlier).

I tried today.

I'm late 40s and had my 2nd jab on 16 June. I'm just 2 weeks away from the 6 months, but they wouldn't do it.

It seemed a bit ridiculous given that they announced on Monday that they'd be dropping the gap to 3 months. If they want to speed up the booster problem, then turning people away is not the best way to do it!

@Yamaya do you mind if I ask if you're in the current eligible category? I've had my second vaccine at the start of June but I've been told I'm not eligible right now (I'm in my early 30s and the reason I was eligible then doesn't apply now unfortunately)

Sometimes the government announcements take a while to put into practice. The actual protocol that allows all the vaccinators to administer the vaccine has to be updated and at present it’s still 6 months since your 2nd dose

Paperwork needs to be sorted first, guidelines and PGDs updated - legal documents that cannot be just sorted instantly. Everyone needs to show a little patience, your turn will come.

My DH went into a walk in yesterday he is at just over 5 months and they wouldn’t let him have it said they are sticking to 6 months. What a waste of time for everyone could have just got that jab delivered. My friend in Derby had hers at 5 months just depends on region.

I did on Wednesday . 6 months not until end of December so I was 5 months. They didn't say anything at all.

@PrivateHall I think the concern is suggestions that it’s open to all on Monday which is not to be fighting over

Report
Yamaya · 02/12/2021 18:03

No I'm not in the vulnerable group, not over 40. They were a bit unsure about my age at first and then someone said "they've updated it now so she can have it".

There was a walk in queue yesterday where I had my booster. Mine was booked but must have been 6 or so people in the walk in queue - it was not busy at all
