DS has just found out his friend has died of the virus. He was apparently quite overweight but was only in his 30’s. I was already taking this seriously and following all the rules but this has made me hyper aware of how important it is that we all do what we are supposed to do. I feel like the surreal has just become very real.

That is so sad. How is DS?

Jourdain11 Thu 26-Mar-20 21:33:12

I'm so sorry. That must have been such a shock and so sad for him sad

DioneTheDiabolist Thu 26-Mar-20 21:34:53

Condolences to your DS and the family of his friend.sadflowers

I'm so sorry that's terrible, the poor lad

Meruem Thu 26-Mar-20 21:40:40

DS is 30. He’s ok but in shock at the moment. We just had a chat and a hug and he’s gone upstairs to speak to some other friends online. Like I say, it’s just made it all very real now. Really take care everyone.

DH auntie has died.
This pandemic is killing people!

I hope your son is OK, that must have been such a shock. It does make it seem real.

TitsInAbsentia Thu 26-Mar-20 22:02:48

So sorry to hear this @Meruem and @PeterPanGoesWrong, I'm afraid the sadness is going to touch many families. I think the more we share the grim reality the more chance we have of getting the idiots who seem to not care to change their behaviour. It's the start of a very long road.

the Italian Health minister has said our packed tube trains are on a par with their milan football game which accelerated the Italian outbreak

Boris hasn't been firm enough, the message isn't getting through. Its all about saving the small businesses and the economy and not enough tv footage about the realities

Daisiest Thu 26-Mar-20 22:05:00

I'm so sorry to hear this. We all need to take heed and stay at home

DenimDrift Thu 26-Mar-20 22:05:26

sorry to hear about your ds friend op. Heartbreaking

Lolliepop87 Thu 26-Mar-20 22:06:19

My aunt died here in Dublin Ireland this morning from the coronavirus. It has really woken me up.

T0tallyFuckedUpFamily Thu 26-Mar-20 22:08:56

I’m so sorry to all of you who have lost someone or has someone ill. My neighbour’s friend is on life support, here in NI. He’s 43.

SewItGoes Thu 26-Mar-20 22:10:57

Really sorry to hear that. As much as we try to make ourselves remember that those abstract numbers are actual human beings with lives and loved ones, sometimes it's hard for it to feel real until you start to hear from people who have lost friends or family.

Honeywort Thu 26-Mar-20 22:12:33

flowers for everyone going through the loss of a friend or loved one

ChoccyJules Thu 26-Mar-20 22:13:48

I‘m so sorry for your loss, all of you. It currently feels as though we are waiting to hear which one of our loved ones is suddenly gravely ill.

LadyHofH Thu 26-Mar-20 22:14:22

So sorry to hear this OP.

I have to say, though, that the message really is getting through outside London. I live in a tourist town a long way from London, and there is not a single. soul around. It's eerie. It's normally so packed that you can't walk on the pavement. So Boris's message really has been taken in by lots of people.

Glitters100 Thu 26-Mar-20 22:15:11

We have just heard of the 3rd person we know that has died from it. All 3 are unconnected/didn’t know each other so haven’t passed to each other. I feel devastated for all 3 families.

MsAwesomeDragon Thu 26-Mar-20 22:15:27

2 of my dad's friends have died already. I know they're in their 80s, but my parents are devastated as it's only the beginning.

I'm sorry for your ds, it's very very sad when young people are dying from this.

mathanxiety Thu 26-Mar-20 22:17:05

So sad.

Mummyoflittledragon Thu 26-Mar-20 22:17:32

This is so sad and sobering. Very different from statistics on a page. I hope people will take this more seriously.

middleager Thu 26-Mar-20 22:22:46

This is awful. So sorry.

Unfortunately the message is not getting through in my neighbourhood, nor with wider family members.
