Positive ovulation tests for six days in a row - now a positive pregnancy test??

Hi all, I really hope someone can help me.

8 weeks ago I had to terminate a 12 week pregnancy that was incompatible with life and I haven't had a period since. From the 24th to the 29th April I took cheapy pregnancy tests which gave me a reeeeally faint (like you could barely see unless squinting at an angle) positive on each one, though they didn't seem to be getting any darker. On the 30th I took a clearblue digital that said Not Pregnant, so I thought that was that.

Started using OPKs and for the past 6 days they have all been positive. Bit unusual for me so did some googling that led me to taking another pregnancy test this afternoon - it came out very clearly positive.

Whats happening with my body?? I got the Not Pregnant result only 6 days ago, why would I get a positive cheapy test today? Could I actually possibly be pregnant again? Or is my body just STILL full of leftover hcg? This is all such a massive headache...

I've attached a photo of the ovulation tests (green) and the pregnancy test (blue). I'd be so grateful for any insight.

I would have thought 8 weeks on if you are getting a positive test then it is a new pregnancy, although I am absolutely no expert. Tentative congratulations!

Hi @PastaSauceHoarder, we spoke on the miscarriage board. Really hoping this is a new pregnancy for you. Can you do a digital test? Not sure what's happening but if you had a negative test it's very likely to be a new pregnancy. Fingers crossed for you 🤞

Is it possible to get a negative result and then six days later a positive and go on to actually be pregnant? I thought the clearblue tests were supposed to be quite sensitive.

Yes @VenusStarr of course, how are you? I think I will go out and buy another clearblue tomorrow. I'm also going to ring my GP to see if I can get an appointment to see whats going on.

I know ovulation tests can detect pregnancy, but does it work the other way around too? Can pregnancy tests detect ovulation maybe?

Good idea to see the GP @PastaSauceHoarder maybe they can blood test to check levels? I don't think you can use pregnancy tests to check for ovulation but opks can show positive when pregnant. Hope you get done answers tomorrow.

I'm OK, cd6 of my first cycle since the mmc, am getting ovulation pains which is weird, period stopped on cd3 which is normal for me. I do ovulate around cd12 usually. Not using opks but keeping an eye on cm. Can't help but overthink every twinge. Can't stop thinking about being pregnant.

Thanks @VenusStarr, I'm just so tired of all this uncertainty. I'm not sure if I request to speak to the GP when I ring tomorrow or just ask for a blood test to confirm/rule put pregnancy?

I know exactly how you feel, I'm so desperate to be pregnant and for it to be healthy. We haven't even had the results back from the post mortem yet from our lost baby so I don't really feel I've had any closure.
Do you usually get ovulation pains? I think its a good sign, that and the right CM. I've got everything crossed for you. 🤞🏻

I had my second DD straight after a MMC.
Once you have a negative test it means the last pregnancy has finished. This would be a new pregnancy I expect.
You are more fertile for 6 months after a MC.

I think they'll see you @PastaSauceHoarder, especially as you're unsure if it's a new pregnancy. 8 weeks after a miscarriage is a long time to still be getting positives, so think they'll want to investigate. My GP offers same day appointments if you call at 8. Hope you get seen and supported 🤞I'm sorry you're still waiting for closure, do you know when the PM results are likely to be?

I do usually get ovulation pains, not this early though. I have read that your cycles can be out after miscarriage but my period arrived around the same cd it usually would so I hoped I'd be lucky and things would go back to normal quickly. Really hoping we both have good news soon 🍀 x

Yes I thought that was maybe unusual, especially since the tests were so light and barely there and now 6 days later its a dark positive that appeared instantly. Surely they wouldn't go so much darker if it were just leftover hcg? And I didn't even use FMU.

Thank you @VenusStarr, apparently according to the midwife who dealt with us we won't be getting our results until the 24th July. It seems a horribly long time to wait for something thats not even nice (if that makes sense).
I hope your body falls back into its natural swing, definitely sounds as if its on the right track. 🤞🏻 Its the not knowing exactly whats going on that drives me crazy.

Hi @PastaSauceHoarder - sorry for your situation - sounds a bit like mine. I also had procedure at around the same time as yours and I've done lots of research on hormones, OPKs and HPTs so hope I can help!
You will still have HCg in your system if your pregnancy tests are showing even the faintest line. What is the sensitivity of the test saying 'not pregnant'? If it is less sensitive it may not be picking up the left over HCg that the other tests were picking up.
The OPKs are only 'positive' when the test line is darker than the control line. You will have LH in your system normally but the surge required for ovulation turns the test line darker. There's a chance the OPKs could be picking up left over HCG?
Sorry the advice I'm giving sounds a bit negative - really hope for you it's a fresh BFP - just know how it feels to be worrying and wondering and checking the internet all the time. I'm currently temping and OPKing all hours of day and night waiting for ovulation. Truly sucks! Fingers crossed for you x

That's a long time to wait @PastaSauceHoarder. Hope you can at least speak with a doctor today. I think I said on the other thread that I definitely ovulated with hcg still in my system. I don't want to give false hope but that cheap test is a clear positive and if you have already had negatives with them I think it's new x

Had a small amount of ewcm this morning, cd7. I usually get it go a couple of days before ovulation so possibly I'm going to be a couple of days early this month. Hope we have good luck this month.

So I managed to get to the doctors this morning, she said it possibly could be leftover hcg but at 8 weeks post-miscarriage it should have gone down by now. She's booked me in for a blood test for Thursday so just have to wait until then.
I did do three different brands of pregnancy tests today and they're all positive - even the clearblue digital one now says 2-3 weeks. And a week ago it definitely said Not Pregnant. Do you think its all real, not hcg?? I so desperately want it to be real.

EWCM is a great sign @VenusStarr, are you going to make the most of it and DTD? How long is your luteal phase usually? I really really hope more than anything that May is a happy month for us. 💛

Very strong positives there @PastaSauceHoarder, I'm certain this is a new pregnancy, tentative congratulations :) I don't think hcg would fluctuate like that. Keeping my fingers crossed for you.

Yes, intend to make the most it it :) luteal phase is 12 days. I'm thinking ov will be in 2/3 days. I'm expecting af on 26 May going by my usual days as I have short cycles (even shorter if I'm right)

🤞 Keeping them tightly crossed for you. Let me know how your bloods go xx

Thank you both, I feel silly for getting a little wave of excitement when I don't 100% know whether I'm pregnant or not. I want to stop thinking about it all but its impossible - and on top of all this I have a job interview tomorrow that I need to prepare for! Need to get into a different mindset for a bit. Smile

I hope the 26th comes really quickly for you @VenusStarr, and I hope AF doesn't make an appearance! As a PP said you're apparently more fertile after a loss so fingers crossed for us all.

Thats exciting, @ikphillips! 🤞🏻🤞🏻

I would say 2-3 weeks result on a digital indicates a really good amount of HCG so I would bet my last pound on this being a new pregnancy, especially after getting a negative on one previously.

Congratulations x

After my tfmr at 14 weeks it was 2 months to the day that i got my positive ao it could be another pregnancy.

Request bloods from the doc and another 24/48 hours later to check if hcg levels are rising to confirm?

Im sorry for your loss ⚘

I had a 12 week TFMR and for about 3 months afterwards I kept getting positive pregnancy tests I had a few scans and there was no retained product so in the end the hospital did blood tests these showed that my HGC levels were dropping just really slowly! it was awful coz it meant I still had pregnancy symptoms eventually they dropped enough to be considered negative!

@PastaSauceHoarder -hello again - I used hospital tests and CB but Frers are usually more accurate and that is a definite positive -? I've crossed my fingers for you and let us know how you get on!! I got my BFPs this morning on a Frer and CB Digital- AF was due yesterday but after two CPs on last 2 cycles I'm totally paranoid also there is a 50% chance this if I make it to 11 weeks I may need to have another TFMR 😢 xx

Well the digital tests aren't that sensitive hence the negative result. Opks tend to give a positive result for pregnancy and ovulation. The cheap tests tend to be very sensitive. This all looks about right for you being pregnant. The only way to know is with an ultrasound though.

Report
MummyBearBoo · 07/05/2019 18:53

Even with a an ultrasound when I had this issue they said they can't tell if it's 6 weeks or less - so they did blood tests for a few weeks in a row to check if the levels were going up or down this should be able to to tell you xxx
