"Day 16 progesterone tes"? WTF?

I have just been to the doc's to start the ball rolling after TTC for a long time. She said from what I am saying - very regular periods, monthly peaks on the CBFM - that I am ovulating but has suggested a day 16 blood test to test progesterone. Surely this is far too early? I have a 27 day cycle and normally ovulate on day 13/14. Anyone any thoughts?

It's too early. It should be around 7 days after ov. Just book the test for around day 20/21 of your cycle.

You were a bit premature with your huffing. Your post had only been up just over an hour. I almost didn't respond at all because I don't like being huffed at!

I wrote it AS. A. JOKE.

But thank you for replying.

Hiya ariel didnt want your post to go unanswered I too have been TTC for ages and had been before I fell pregnant with my DD who is now 2.5 I have not been TTC for nearly a year. Anytime bloods have had to be taken to check if I was ovulating it has always Day 21 (going for day 21 test tomorrow) Day 16 does seem very early to me, although I am on clomid and maybe thats why its day 21 tests for me.

I hope you get the answers youre looking for and sending babydust your way xx

Did you ask her why she recommended day 16?

If you go for it, all I can see happening is that it comes back low and they repeat it Hmm

Thank you laura

I did ask her about day 3 and day 21 bloods (which I know are standard), and she said they were to test FSH and LH, and the day 16 would be to test the progesterone. Perhaps I should ring her and check? Because if it comes out low on day 16, then this could cause unnecessary worry couldn't it?

What an unneccessary response, Euro. And that is my most restrained version of that sentence.

riebie I don't really know my luvver but a quick google suggests she might be thinking luteal phase defect? See here:

Hmmm. I can't see why she would though. Nothing indicates a luteal phase problem.

Thanks Cass.

Nothing to add, I also thought it was supposed to be 7 days post ovulation that they did the test but there might be a good reason.

Just wanted to add good luck with the test, hope you get somewhere with it very soon :)

Stupidly I have just remembered something which might explain things. She wants to test for anaemia so thought I might as well have the blood test at the same appt as the smear. And a rubella jab, even though I've had one. I was in a flap so may have just imagined the progesterone thing. Or did I?

Must be a combination of nerves and my advancing years.

Not responding at all may have been the nicer option?

I'd ring her back Rie, better to put your mind at rest.

I gave a sensible answer. And commented that I didn't like being huffed at. I am not sure how that was "unnecessary" Casserole. Did you really have to restrain yourself to write that reply? Conception is generally a helpful place where people don't get stroppy if someone isn't helpful quickly enough. After all, they are generally relying on someone taking the time to reply to help them out.

The day 3 test is for LH and FSH. They day 21/7dpo test is for progesterone. Your dr sounds rather confused, OP.

X posts. It sounds like the day 16 could be irrelevant to hormones & more for general bloods. I've had an anaemia and rubella check recently too.

Euro, no one forced you to comment and I certainly didn't have you in mind in particular when I wrote "". Why take things so personally? I already explained that I wasn't being stroppy and I was just joking. In the grand scheme of things it's really not offensive.

Again, thank you for taking the trouble to reply.

Yes, and my reply was to Casserole who seemed to take my reply to you terribly personally. I have seen that you said you were joking and I replied to your query anyway. I don't think you were being offensive. I don't think my reply was offensive either and I wasn't taking anything personally. I was just pointing out that you might get more responses without the huffing.

Quick update: I was silly and didn't listen properly. The day 16 blood test is to test for anaemia, thyroid and liver function.

Thank you all.

Dunno, Boobs. She was just presenting me with options today. And she seemed fairly confident I was ovulating because of the regular periods and the monthly three bars and an egg.

PS does anyone else imagine "three bars and an egg" to the tune of "Brown Gril in the Ring? Or is it just me?

I didn't. But I do now.

I have never actually seen 3 bars and an egg. I will sing to the SD this month and see if it works.
