Seeing as I cant get to see a Dr for ages anyone want to try and diagnose dd?

Shes 14yo, generally fit and well.

Night before last she suddenly started screaming that her leg hurt and she couldn't walk on it. Major aching pain. She doesn't seem to have pulled it, wasn't doing anything noticable to cause the sudden onset. She says it hurts all the time, isn't made worse by movement.

She had similar a year ago when she had shingles but she doesn't have a shingle rash at the minute so don't think its that.

Yesterday morning I found her "collapsed" on her bedroom floor. She reckons she'd been unconcious for 20 mins as she had got out of bed at half six and "came round" just as I came in. I have no idea how accurate this is. Her leg was still very painful and she was screaming as I tried to help her up. I told her she shouldn't go to school but she insisted she went. legstill hurt when she csome home.

This morning her leg still hurts, she feels generally unwell, she says it hurts to breath and keeps saying that she can't breath.....but to me she doesn't appear to be struggling to breath. Leg still hurts. She says she often feels dizzy and odd. She has also got weird little marks/bruises on her legs. I think she picks at any spots, ingrown hairs, etc but some of the marks she's hd for ages and don't seem to be healing very well.

I rang the Dr at 8am but by the time I got through the queue all the appointments for today have gone. They've made an appointment for the end of next week.

Can you get shingles without the rash? Might it be a virus?

Ring in the morning and ask for an emergency appointment. All surgeries have them- i think they have to. You are under no obligation to tell the receptionist what its about. Just insist your daughter sees her doctor. Or do you have a walk in centre you could go to?

I might well have headed for A&E after she said she was unconscious for 20 minutes............And if her leg was too painful to stand.

Has she ever had panic attacks in the past?

It's very likely not, but pain in the leg could indicate a DVT and thst, with the breathing problem, would want me to have her seen quite urgently. Can you call 111 or whatever it's called?!

Hopefully it's just typical teenager exaggeration, but better to be safe than sorry.

leg swollen and/or hot where it hurts?

if yes dvt comes to mind...

Yeah. Ring NHS Direct. They will hopefully be able to give you more of an idea of what to do

You need to take her to wherever will see her. Call 111 and discuss it there.

She's obviously not trying to get out of something at school, so don't underplay her symptoms.

She needs to be seen today. Ring again. I am not a doctor so hopefully way off the mark but I would consider those symptoms possibly indicative of something serious

I'm not convinced by the being unconcious for 20 mins to be honest. I think you'd have to be quite ill to be unconcious that long. It's possible she fainted.

Either she fainted or she was unconscious-neither is particularly great. She needs to be seen-do you have a walk in centre nearby? Or your GP might be able to squeeze you in as an emergency. They can give you a phone consultation at the very least.

We do have a walk in centre but they have a list of things/conditions they will see and this doesn't seem to fit anything on their list.

Nhs direct will tell you where to take her, give them a call.

The leg pain and breathing difficulties can be symptoms of a very serious condition, so you really need to call and get her looked at. Chances are DD is fine and it's a virus and nothing serious, but you need to get the serious ruled out ASAP

I don't think its a dvt. The leg pain is more hip pain rather than calf or groin pain.

the leg pain combined with breathlessness can indicate a PE. I am confident its not, but it's not a risk I would be willing to take,and trust me, normally the last one to take myself or kids to the doc!

There are things other than dvt that are serious too. I wouldn't let it go unchecked today if she were mine.

I do hope that all is done and it's just a good case of teenager drama.

However, from what you've said it does sound like you're seriously under reacting and that in the least your dd should be seen and assessed soon. Severe leg pain, breathing issues, skin changes and fainting need to be checked.
