What is this bug going around?

Does anybody know? DD8 had a temperature of nearly 40 last weekend, it has slowly but steadily gone down. Still 38 deg C today. Very stuffed nose, lots of sniffles, red, watery eyes, a bit shivery.

Her teacher said there is something doing the rounds at school. Anyone know about this bug? Parents of school age children, help me please. I keep thinking it's just a cold and have so far not taken her to the Dr. Should I?

Thanks muchly, jnl!!

So you reckon it might be the flu? Do I just have to wait it out then? How long do you reckon this will last?

Sorry for spattering you with questions.Grin

I'm still taking her to the docs tomorrow.

Dd is on day 4 and no better really
Doc said just to keep an eye on her temp and give calpol and nurofen together.
She's spreading it around, we all have it now

Just back from the Dr. He thinks its a tummy bug and she is already on the mend.

When he asked, "Does your tummy hurt?" DD loudly declared, "yes, because I'm really hungry". The same girl who couldn' t stomach even two bites of toast in the morning. Angry

Jnl, Badvoc, Yama and Stressed -the good news is no infection and no antibiotics. Just wait it out. I'm plying DD with yoghurt.

Thanks all.

Ds keeps perking up and we think he is on the mend only for him to slump again.

Poor wee mite takes himself off to bed when he's really tired.

He's looking quite thin too.

Day 5. How is everyone else doing?

Shit Badvoc, that's awful. Ill children are so stoical aren't they?

Day 12 though - must be worrying if he's not really eating. Hope the Doc is helpful tomorrow.

I am worried, yes.
He does tend to get quite ill with viruses due to his asthma.

Day 9. DD is really tired and has been going to bed at 7:30. Which is unheard of.

I can see a hint of an appetite returning. Is it gastric flu, what our children have? What do you think?

My DD had this in the Christmas holidays (age 5). It lasted 5 days. Was thinking of taking her to the Dr then on the 6th day the temp disappeared and she was much better.

doc said it was tonsillitis in the toddler, she could only tell me her cheek hurts. - throat?? my throat is agony and Ive got fever too so think it is tonsillitis amongst other things.

The adult version is pretty much the same as the kids, DH has been floored by it. I'm on day 4 temperature, awful sore throat, chesty cough and dizziness
Pretty nice Hmm

I think my ds2 (15 months) has got the same thing. But it's hit him just after a very bad chest infection which took two weeks to clear and was almost admitted to hospital.

Just as his chest was getting better he started with really stuffy/runny nose, red eyes, pitiful crying, fever and the last two weeks his cough has come back. Thankfully the past few days he's started eating better and was taking milk throughout, albeit less than normal.

He's also given it to me and I've been asleep at 8.30 - 9pm for the last week. I feel dreadful, hot, shivery, everything aches, my head kills and it feels like I've been smacked in the face with a brick. It's been all I can do to get the older dcs to school before coming home and collapsing on the sofa. I haven't been this tired with so little energy since ds2 was a non-sleeping newborn.

I really hope it goes soon as I can't take much more of feeling like this. It looks like dd2 is starting to get it as well, I'm hoping its just a cold and not whatever this horrid bug is that ds2 and I have.
