Ewwww really worried about DDs big toe, utterly manky infection

DD 3 had a v small cut in the crease under her big toe. It had a small infection which has got bigger and bigger. Today her toe is twice its size, the cut is weeping manky pus, individual blisters of pus have gone down the side of her foot and up over her toe. It's red raw where some of them have popped and bleeding in other places.

We went to the walk in centre on Monday when it was nowhere near this bad and the nurse gave antibs and stuck a steri strip over it. Went back today because its so much worse. Saw a doctor today who actually physically baulked at it Shock. She gave new strong antibs and a dry iodine powder to cover it. She also said the nurse should not have put a steri strip on it (it just sat inside the cut until DD pulled it off)

The pharmacy didn't have the powder she prescribed and said its not even made anymore. The GP said if no improvement by 9am she needs iv antibs at the hospital. Her foot just looks worse and worse, she can't walk on it and its just gross.

Would you take to AE tonight or wait until the morn? Are the new antibs even going to make any difference by 9am?

Sorry meant to add the pus bubbles aren't connected to anything, they are just randomly popping up around the wound. No red streaking yet but more a general inch of angry redness. No temp but very grumpy!

I'd go tonight but might be worth marking the edges of the red area with biro before you set off so you can see how quickly it's spreading

Take her in. She may need IV antibiotics now to stop the infection in its tracks.

A&E tonight.

That sounds like it needs urgent treatment ie can't wait until the morning.

I would go tonight, she is very little to be trying to fight off an infection like that.

Agree- draw round the edges of the swelling and get to A &E. Not wirth worrying all night when they could start IV antibiotics now.

Definitely straight to a&e to get it checked. You know that if you don't go you'll be up all night worrying and the sooner antibiotics are started the better.

TBH I'm surprised the doctor didn't send you straight to hospital if its that bad.

Tonight.

She's probably in a fair bit of pain with it anyway, poor thing.

Mark around it with a pen, so you can see if it spreads any further.

She was umming and ahhhing about the hospital but said wait until the morning. I think the iodine powder was supposed to dry it out but the pharmacy don't even have it
