A series of books for 10yo DS please

DS seems to like books that a part of a series. He loved Narnia, and he is really enjoying Alex Rider, but has got to book 7 of 12 and is losing a bit of interest.

He isn't a strong reader, probably about average for his age. We are past needing pictures (no not 13th storey treehouse) but doesn't like very long books as he only reads a chapter or two a day, and long books take too long to finish (eg most of the David Walliams are way too long for him to read to himself).

He finds Harry Potter too challenging, but we read the large hardback illustrated books together.

Percy Jackson was massive hit in our house. In fact anything by Rick Riordan seems to be a boy pleaser.

Artemis Fowl series is also fab.

Has he read Wimpy Kid series or Tom Gates or the 'Middle School' series? They are semi - cartoony but mostly text.

If he likes football I would recommend the football boy wonder: charlie fry series. My nephew is 9 and loved them.
Anthony Horowitz Wickedly Funny series are good aswell. Horrid Henry is good but may be a little young for him x

He wasn't a fan of Horrid Henry - he couldn't understand why a child wouldn't be kind! He has led a sheltered life, bless him.

We are beyond Tom Gates and Diary of a Wimpy Kid, I think. I would imagine that he would enjoy them, but I think that boat has passed as children in his class at school were reading them a couple of years ago, when DS' reading maybe wasn't as good as a lot of theirs. I don't think he would want to read them knowing that his classmates had read them a couple of years ago.

I will look at the other recommendations, thank you. He is a football fan, so the Charlie Fry books sound good. And he loved Alex Rider, so Horowitz's Wickedly Funny books sound promising. I hope he will read Percy Jackson or Artemis Fowl to expand his mind a little, but we will see!

Both my DSs loved Michelle Paver's Wolf Brother series at about that age.

At 10 he isn't too old for Tom Gates and Wimpy Kid. The character of Tom is 10 and Greg (Wimpy Kid) is 11 in the first book then growing older to 13. The books are still popular with Yr 5 and 6 kids that I know. Teach him it's important to not care what other people think about his book choices. If he is enjoying the book then that is important.

I wouldn’t assume he’s past the Tom gates/ diary of a wimpy kid. DD (10) has just read them and DS (12 and a prolific reader) loved the middle school books 2 years ago.
I would also recommend The Percy Jackson books.
DD is reading Jeremy Strong books and they are very funny with pictures too.

My ds likes dipping in and out of sea quest, he doesn't like long books either so these are nice and manageable.
He also doesn't like horrid Henry or David walliams.

Seconding Tom Gates and Wimpy Kid - ds is an advanced reader at 10 but still loves them. He's got into Wee Free Men and sequels recently (Pratchett) and is secretly reading Enid Blyton's school stories.

There is one Joe Rowley which my Ds just read supposed to be next step to diary of a wimpy kId.

Not a series but my Ds has loved David Williams and broccoli boy - can’t remember who wrote it but he lives that author
