My kids have always loved reading but the rainbow magic series really encouraged my daughter to read independently for pleasure because they were full of magic and fairy’s. My son loves the dinosaur that pooped series because it’s funny and pretty disgusting! Independent reading he loves anything about football, match magazine, match attack cards, 100 facts about football - can you guess he’s football crazy!!

My son loved the Frankie's magic football series. He loves football and it really got him into it. Now looking for more football books to keep his reading up!

The Captain Underpants books really got my DD into reading, they're funny, gross and silly, which is right up her street! Really recommend them for reluctant or hesitant readers.

Harry Potter got my kids into reading, it took a lot of years before they decided they liked books but now they can't put them down, they now love Tom Gates books, football ones and David Walliams

Julia Donaldson and Oliver Jeffers definitely taught my children to love books when they were little and David Walliams got them reading independently. My DD's love of reading was fuelled by Harry Potter, but my DS didn't see the point of reading them because he could watch the films!

Tbh I don't think it was any particular book. From the day they came home from the hospital I've read them a bedtime story and we read together at other times too. They see me reading a lot. We visit the library regularly. Reading is a big part of this family. Teachers have commented that they love books from age 3 and both could read fluently before age 6. It's about reading attitudes not reading material. It is most definitely not something to be ticked off the daily homework list. Sums on the other hand......

David walliams books are a favourite in our house because they are so funny and we like to read them together.

My son never got into reading! I have always loved books and bought so many for him as a child and read to him all the time! I don't think he has ever bothered to read a book to my sorrow! BUT I now have a grandson who is a complete book worm and would love these books!

Ds could read perfectly well before, but it was BeastQuest that made him want to read and read, and turned reading from something he did because he had to (he loved me reading to him, or audiobooks but reading himself was seen as an effort) to his 'boy with his nose in a book' state that has continued ever since.

Oh this series sounds like something my boys would love! I may have to get it for them. Frankies magiv football and the Theo Walcott series have been popular with them, as well as non fiction football books, and for my 9 year old Harry Potter

My DS got into reading more after discovering a book by David Walliams and has been hooked on his books ever since.

They have to be books that they are interested in for themselves. Dr. Who and Percy Jackson have been very popular.

Batman Phonics were very popular in our house . I would second that anything your children is into really helps them to pick up the book in the first place.

My son enjoys reading and football and yet lacks confidence in both! He doesn't like making mistakes so we are working on building resilience in both areas - so this would be an ideal combination for us!
