So, wise women of MN, should I go into labour ward?

I am 35+7, BH@s are getting very strong and I am now getting pain around the bottom of my bump and in my lower back, and I feel sick.
HOWEVER, I am in the office this morning and am sitting in a stupid chair that I can't adjust, and the back pain is a constant dull ache rather than coming and going.

DH is picking me up in 20 minutes anyway and his parents will be here this afternoon so I can either go home and wait to see if it goes away or go into labour ward for monitoring just to see if it is nothing or not.....have spoken to MW who said to take paracetemol and possibly go in if it carries on and I still feel 'weird',
what do you reckon??
Am I totally overreacting? (I never went intop labour with DD so have no clue what it feels like)

go in and get checked out. could be something different but that could do with attention like a uti.

my labour started as period pains at 4 minute intervals btw. with active labour the contractions are usually breathtaking - i.e. you can't speak through them, are stopped in your tracks. but obviously there are exceptions to this.

Not over reacting at all.

I would take MW advie, paracetamol- home and rest- go in if that doesn't stop things

I would probably go home for a rest for an hour or two and if not then go in for checking. Assume you're well otherwise and the baby is moving well?

DaisyMOO · 06/09/2007 11:45

Sorry, that was a badly phrased question- I meant - are you well otherwise and is the baby moving around as normal?

Back is quite painful now, but stomach doesn't hurt at all. I haven't felt the BH's much but they have been going on for days now and are really pissing me off as I can't bend or anything!
Part of me wants to go in and be reasured that it is nothing.
The other part doesn't want to go in and be stuck in sodding hospital, on my own, all afternoon! (DH has to go into work as they have and audit, and I don't want to start his paternity leave in case it is nothing...)

I feel fine Daisy, and she is kicking around as normal.
I'm just thinking that this is the first office day I have done in an month so that might be making me feel weird....
God I wish there was a labour test you could pee on, like a pregnancy test! T'would be sooo much easier!

Your Dh can get time off for dependants 9you being the dependant) to be with you if he wishes. acnt gusrantee it will be paid though.

If the back ache is worsening be careful- some labours are felt entirely in the back (ds2 was).

Right, backache is still there but as a dull ache, but BH's have stopped.
Now I really don't know what to do!

i would honestly say dont go in unless you are in pain, i went in a few times with what you describe only to be kept waiting for hours and then told to go home.

i waited longer with ds than i did with dd id say once you are having contractions where you cant move every 3 minutes its time to go to hospital.

Honestly, i think you should go home. If this is it and your having back labour pains, you will have to go in later anyway so it might be best to go and have a bath, have something light to eat to keep energy levels up rather than be tied up on the ecg machine for hours and if not or its very early stages its pretty demoralising being sent home (i wanted to cry when midwife said i should go to the cinema but she was right, i should have done, i havent been since dd was born!)

good plan, I just hated the hanging around in there.

Shall stop thinking I am going into labour and get on with relaxing on sofa

I am home but DH is now in work so I am looking after DD and can't bath or anything. I am covered in stickers though

IL's are on their way anyway for a visit but aren't here yet so can't really do much that doesn't involve being in same room as her....

scary films obviously the way to go!

My labour started as period pain backache (well, went I went into labour properly anyway. I was having false or pre labour contractions on and off for three days beforehand) but it did come in waves, there was no pain at all between contractions. Does it feel like period pain or genuine backache? Could it be how you were sitting or the position you slept in last night? have you lifted anything heavy? I wrecked my back and strained my bump lifting a washing basket at about 8 months pg! Damn relaxed ligaments!

excited for you though

Okay, it's happening again!

36+5, Lower back pain, I feel really sick, I have a headache over my eyes and am getting pains around the side of my bump, nothing major, but twingey pains.
Can't get through to labour ward and don't know my midwife (my original one quit this week! charming)

What's the opinon?
Off to make DD@s tea and see if it take smy mind off it

And if it makes any difference DH has just sold my car, and the new one doesn't get picked up until friday, so only transport we have is his motorbike.....so really don't want to go into labour today!

take the paracetomal, have a bath, and go to bed, if you are in labour, you won;t be able to sleep

make sure you are drinking enough , as headache and strong BH can be made worse by dehydration

certainly don;t think you are in labour yet. but this could be the start. or not !

I'm sorry, but the image of rushing woman in labour to the hospital on a motorbike is priceless. Can we have a pic if that happens?

Personally, I think you will find better advice on mumsnet than you will in the hospital. So, I think you are well placed until you are sure you are in labour (assuming this is planned as a normal vaginal birth).

QUICK HIJACK

LULU PLEASE GO TO THE KRAKEN TWIT THREAD.

Sorry about that.

I shall be back to join in with seeing how you are getting on asap. In the meantime, I wish you the very best of luck. I have kept having false alarms, which have seemed very real, so take heart, you may be ok for a bit.
