Elective caesarean date?

verytiredmummy1 · 06/07/2016 17:53

For how many weeks pregnant was your elective caesarean booked?
I was aiming for a Vbac but have decided last ish minute to have a c section, I wasn't sure at what stage I would have this?

Mine was booked for 39 weeks (6 years ago) but I went into labour early at 37 so had it then.

It's highly unlikely to be before 39 weeks unless there is medical need due to the guidelines (presume RCOG?).

I had my consultant appointment a few weeks ago and it's still be scheduled for 39 plus 2 as that's the first weekday after 39 weeks despite my first two labours starting spontaneously at 38+1 and 39 weeks.

I was really surprised to be given my due date. I campaigned really hard for an earlier date but they weren't having any of it!

Yes mine was booked for 39 weeks. I think that's standard as the likelihood of the baby having trouble breathing is reduced but you probably won't go into labour spontaneously before then. I had said throughout the pregnancy that I wanted an ELCS after having a caesarean with my eldest (at 38 weeks as it happens) but it wasn't until 36 weeks that it was formally agreed by the consultant and he booked the date - offered me a choice in fact. I told him I could do any day as it wasn't like I'd be doing something more important ...

I aimed for a vbac, but said I would go to 42 weeks, and if still nothing would go for c section.

I got to 41 weeks and was so fed up said "I'll take that section now please!" and had it a couple of days later.

My point being, you don't have to make up your mind yet!

38+6 and 39+2.
Both booked shortly after 20 weeks.

Mine's currently booked for nearly 41 weeks because they had no spaces beforehand due to a slight cock up.

Third section. I'm not too bothered as I'm fairly sure its my last and it will be exciting to get the fun of looking out for labour etc. Although I live over an hour from hospital so I'm sure I'll be stressing nearer the time!

No one thought to book mine until 32 weeks (despite my querying it...!) so that's why it's so late.

As others have said from 39 weeks onwards to help with baby's lungs.
Mine was at 39+4
Regarding vbac - it can be discussed with your consultant. Some women wait and see if anything happens naturally but go for elcs rather than be induced so will have the section at 41 ish weeks. Depends on what's agreed.

My baby was breech. I had an appointment booked with the consultant to discuss the elective section at 38+2 but my waters broke and I ended up with an EMCS at 38+1!

My ELCS was booked for 40w (due date), I think we set the actual date quite late (36w?) but it was agreed in the 1st trimester to have an ELCS.
With my middle DC I booked the c/s for 42w, at 41w. I wanted to (and did) try for a VBAC but consultant insisted on having a c/s date booked, so I chose a very late one, thinking I'd go into labour before it came to that (I did, only to end up with a crash section, but that's another story!).

There's no hard and fast rules - it all depends on you and the hospital / consultant, though likely not before 39w due to reasons mentioned by PPs.

Mine was booked in for 39wks but was brought forward at my 37wk appointment (go home and get your things and we'll get this baby out)
My hospital only book earlier than 39wks for medical need.

DC my CS was booked for 39+0

This time all the elective lists seem to be booked up already, so am pushing for a slot anywhere from 38+6 up to 40 weeks.

Would prefer not to go post-dates, for personal reasons/worry that something will go wrong etc

For DC1 section was booked in when I was around 36 weeks, from a surprisingly easy maternal request process!

This time my consultant appointment was at 36 weeks too, had a feeling they'd be all booked out by then! Confused

My elective was booked for 39+1. I went into labour at 39 weeks exactly.

I asked for earlier as I went into labour with ds at 38+4 but was refused on the grounds it would highly unlikely I'd labour before 39+1...
