Well, we're going.

Will be packing plenty of tent pegs to double peg, spare poles and a big roll of gaffer tape, and plenty of plastic bags.

I think the warning is in the south west!! We are camping in Cornwall. We have never had to pitch the tent in the rain before

Me! Im heading to Somerset on Saturday for the week. Luckily a family member lives approx 10 miles from where we're staying. They are on stand by for visitors ( just in case)

Me! We are going to Wales, so gutted about the forecast given how nice it's been this week.
Im a bit scared to be honest, it's forecast 40mph winds. I'm not a very experienced camper, anyone got any tips for surviving strong winds?!

Inertia - sorry for being stupid, why the roll of gaffer tap?! I get the other stuff and will pack spares but I'm stumped re. the tape?

Gaffa tape for tent rips or pole splits

Inertia · 18/08/2016 13:26

As Mephisto says - handy for quick tent repairs to get through the trip if eg a pole breaks , or to patch up an ailing air bed with a leaky valve.

We are too. Not as far south west as most of you but it's supposed to be thunder storms and heavy showers on Saturday...

Us! I'm hoping it is going to be a storm in a teacup. We are going to Herefordshire

Thanks people, that makes sense!

warning areas
looks like it could gust to 60mph perhaps. A bit challenging for camping. Peg down really well (delta pegs are good) and think about which way you pitch. Park your car to protect it from the worst.

Have done some camping in those kind of winds. Pop up tents aren't great as they try to fold themselves back up again in very high wind.

We're going to a festival in the north west. Been looking forward to it for ages and praying for sun, but it's not looking at all promising

Cornwall on Sunday so should be ok as not pitching the rent until the Monday. Until the forecast changes that is...

I am away but not camping thankfully.

I will say I was away camping a few months ago with 40mph winds with stronger gusts and it was impossible. Our vango tent was literally the only tent left standing and we had a main guy rope snap and packed up after two nights. Every other tent was flattened or people gave up and left. Some people went home and binned their tents on the campsite, broken poles, ripped tents, etc.

And that was the pop up tent on the next pitch! It never stood up.

So who is going away this weekend when there has been forecast a severe weather warning......

We are Shock

Supposed to be heading to Cornwall camping for a week starting Saturday. We've decided to break the journey and I've booked a travelodge in Taunton for Saturday night. If the weather improves I can cancel up until midday. A bit of a cop-out I know but dp has to pretty much put the tent up on his own while I look after ds and there's no way he'd manage if it is as they suggest.

Sunday we can leave Taunton early, miss the traffic and pitch all by lunchtime and still enjoy the rest of the day (hopefully).

Bloody English weather, good luck fellow campers (and if anyone knows of wheelchair accessible boat trips out of Falmouth / Padstow / Newquay please let me know).
