Lola?

Undecided on this - it will always remind me of the Kinks, but we both like it and think it goes well with our DD's name, Poppy; fun, not too pretentious but not too traditional either. What do you think?

I find this name a bit sexualised. In a very porn industry kind of way. Others clearly don't see that as it's becoming very popular now. Strange choice imo.

Leila is pretty. Lois is a good strong name. Lois could be nnd Lola.

I really like it - I think some people focus too much on associations when, in reality, a child/adult naturally becomes their name and people forget about those associations. It's very pretty.

Don't like it at all due to Lolita/sex with a minor connotations. I think it's still a strong cultural link that I would hate to give a DD.

I probably would have agreed with others - Kinks song, overly sexualised etc., but I now know a baby Lola and I don't think of any of those things in association with her, because she is who she is IYSWIM...

If it made me think of Lola from Charlie and Lola then I'd say yes but it just makes me sing 'she was a showgirl' so a no from me.

My DD (aged 9) is called Lola. I chose it because it means "strong woman" in Spanish, and that's what I want her to be! I don't understand the concept of a "sexualised" name - don't know any strippers, porn-stars or lapdancers so I can't comment on whether they're all named Lola or not, but I can't think of any glamour models with that name so.. I don't know? I mean Katie Price - does that mean Katie is now a sexualised name? Only really old people are going to get the Barry Manilow reference , she's more likely to be bombarded with Charlie and Lola gifts at birthdays and Christmas.

Does it mean strong woman in Spanish? I thought it was a short form of Dolores which means literally, pains and is translated into English as 'Sorrows'.

I love the name. Goes really nicely with Poppy.
Lola doesn't make me think of any of those songs, and I don't think it is sexualised, however, DH veto'd it for DD as he said all he could think about was Lolo Ferrari (he said the name sounded too similar) Men!
My point is, that people will always find a reason to not like a name (when asked an opinion), but as a previous poster said, the child becomes the name and other associations are forgotten.
If you love it, go for it.

My 14 month old is Lola and it really suits her. I did worry a little bit at first but I have never had a negative comment about it.

She tends to get reference to Charlie and Lola rather than The Kinks or Barry Manilow.
