Unusual names for twin girls?

Trying to help sis come up with names for her twins, preferably starting with the same letter.

My ideas (below) are a little unusual but I am actually beginning to wonder if they are safer bets than her choices!!!!

Elysia / Evelyn
Marissa/Monique
Napia/ Narissa
Octavia / Ophelia
Taliah / Tawnie
Violet / ?

Other suggestions welcome, she is after uncommon but well matched names

Why on earth does she want to call them "matching" names? They're individuals, not a pair! Poor little things - twins get treated as novelty acts enough without their parents getting in on it.

Would agree with KembleTwins. Twins get treated as one unit far too much as it is: being dressed the same, receiving one birthday card between them, addressed to 'The twins', etc. I'd go with two individual names for two individual children.

I personally think that avoiding same initials in dcs, especially twins who will be same age and presumably at school together, same year and all, is a good thing.

I just remember the confusion that arose when I was older and living at home, sharing initial with my mother, both of us Ms S XXXX. Given that I started having smear tests at 16, and she had various official letters, we had to be quite open about things . And that's even with us having numerous middle names - many companies/corporations/organisations just don't seem to use middle initials. Bank statements - free for all. Exam results - no privacy. That kind of thing.

A mum at dd's school has two gorgeous twin dd's. Their names are similar but not the same initial: Freya and Maya. Go together but not too samey - lovely

I have an identical twin sister with the same initial.

We have had the same problems identified above, my siter actually went into our bank because she'd locked her keys into the car. She did not have any ID on her but because she knew all the security questions- mothers maiden name, d.o.b etc, she was given cash out of my account by accident. It was only later that she realised.

We do get mixed up, but it is more the name people mix up, rather than the person IYSIM.

Having said all this however, I quite like our names, as they are the same, but different- just like us.

FAb advice, it was my idea about the matching initials as they are identical, but the daft thing is my hubby and his 3 siblings start with D which I thought was stupid!
My DH and DC all have middle names starting with J which was more by luck than planning until the last one, which is where the mad idea came from.

thanks merryandmad, being a rebecca who grew up being called rachel by teachers, parents friends etc, yours really hit home with the name thing.
lilybolero, she likes Ophelia and Eve but that seems too dissimliar, think she may like Ariane tho.
They had a hard year so the name thing is big thing to cheer up littlies and prob why it all seems to contrived/twee.

I don't think having the same intials will be quite the calamity some are claiming here, it may merely be occasionally inconvenient.

Personally I think matching the first letters is a bit twee, but you didn't ask for my opinion and I do agre that twin names need to 'go' together in some way.

Match the styles, but don't have similar names.

I heard of twins called Coco and Cora which struck me as the worst possible combination imaginable. STylistically unsimilar, but yet, similar sounding. MAD.

There is one lady at work who always calls me Rachel aswell.

We have lots of twins in our family, would recommend if your sister does go with the same first initial, to definatley have different middle initials though. (I was Twin 2 at the dentist for many years coz they always got us mixed up)

When my sister was little, she wanted twin girls called Milly & Molly- now i think that is a little bit twee.

Also have you thought about having same initials, but perhaps names that are nicknamed with different initials. That way if they do find it a little bit confusing or a mouthful they can use different names eg. Elizabeth (Beth) and Elouisa (Lou) for when they are a bit older and want there own personality to come oout a bit more.

Agree same letter & too similar is daft, have got friends who are sisters Rebecca and Rachel and Chloe and Zoe and they would prefer not to be so matchy-matchy!
